Fulshear Police to Offer Citizens Police Academy

May 18 2023

Beginning in June, the Fulshear Police Department will host a Citizens Police Academy. For 10 weeks, this program will be offered every Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The Citizens Police Academy gives residents an opportunity to see how the Fulshear Police Department operates and is available for residents of all backgrounds and occupations. It is offered as a public service to the community at no cost to participants.

The Citizens Police Academy is part of the Fulshear Police Department's ongoing efforts to increase awareness and support for law enforcement.
Participating in a Citizens Police Academy can help alleviate misunderstandings about policing, teach participants how to better protect their property and enhance overall safety, participate on a "ride along" with an officer, and have a firsthand look at the policies and regulations that police must follow.
Each week will focus on a particular topic, which is tentatively scheduled as follows:
  • Week One: Orientation
  • Week Two: Traffic Stops
  • Week Three: Crime Scene Search and Investigations
  • Week Four: K-9 and Narcotics
  • Week Five: Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Tour
  • Week Six: Building Clearing
  • Week Seven: Active Shooter
  • Week Eight: Use of Force
  • Week Nine: Community Oriented Policing
  • Week 10: Graduation

Applicants must be employed in the city of Fulshear or be a resident within the city limits of Fulshear, at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license, and pass a background check. Class is limited to twenty participants. Please note that the tentative class schedule is subject to change. Please email Captain Mike McCoy at mmccoy@fulsheartexas.gov with your request to be part of the Fulshear Police Department Citizens Police Academy.
