Fulshear Police Officers Help Reunite Homeless Man with Family

February 17 2023

Recently, Fulshear Police K-9 Officer Jennifer Edmonds and Sergeant Kevin Zieschang went above the call of duty in an act of human kindness that reunited a family estranged by homelessness.

Fulshear Police dispatch received a call regarding a man in Fulshear who appeared to be in disarray. Officer Edmonds and Sergeant Zieschang arrived on scene and discovered the man, who appeared to be struggling with mental health challenges. At the time, they were unaware that this man had been wandering homeless for over four years. He had been missing during that period and his family presumed he was dead.

The man was not committing a crime, but Officer Edmonds and Sergeant Zieschang knew they had to do something to help this citizen. Through social media, they were able to reach the man's family. The officers provided him with food and transportation to a location where he could be reunited with his family. Upon his family's arrival, a serious medical issue concerning his foot was discovered and needed immediate medical attention. Without medical care, he could have lost his foot entirely.

Thanks to Officers Edmonds and Zieschang’s professionalism, care for others, and humanity, this family was reunited and the man they assisted was able to get urgently needed medical attention at a local hospital. A member of the family issued a heartfelt message of thanks to the Fulshear Police Department, noting that the man assisted by Officer Edmonds and Sergeant Zieschang has a much brighter future, thanks to their efforts.

Along with the message, the family also submitted a recent photo of the man, who is the nephew of the family member who reached out to the Fulshear Police Department, along with his sister. Although their mother and father are deceased, they now have each other once again, as well as the love and support of their uncle and other relatives.
