Fulshear Police Celebrates Successful Graduation of Citizens Police Academy 7
The Fulshear Police Department recently celebrated the successful completion and graduation of another batch of residents from the Citizens Police Academy 7.
The Citizens Police Academy fosters the strengthening of community bonds while offering the participating residents a firsthand insiders' view into the daily operations, responsibilities, and challenges faced by their local officers. The comprehensive curriculum covered during the 11-week academy included a wide array of police duties, such as patrol procedures, investigative techniques, emergency response, community policing, and trust-building.
The recent Citizens Police Academy also provided immersive experiences like simulated building clearings, traffic stops, and handling disturbances. Participants also had the opportunity to participate on a 'ride along' with an officer, offering a real-world insight into the job of a police officer. Supplemental lectures included topics like the use of drones in law enforcement and the dangers and investigations of driving while intoxicated.
Another unique feature of the program was the "K-9 Night", an event that gave participants a chance to interact with the K-9 unit, specifically K-9 Blu, and learn about their significant role within the department.
The academy's benefits extend way beyond the classrooms. It helps to dispel misunderstandings about policing, teaches participants how to better protect their property and enhance overall safety, and provides a sense of the policies, regulations, and norms that police officers must adhere to.
Attempts to increase awareness and support for law enforcement among the citizens are the principal motivation behind these academies. Upon completion, graduates of these classes are expected to be better-informed citizens and ambassadors of goodwill within the community. The idea is that the experiences and knowledge gained during the academy can be shared further in their circles, contributing to a safer, more connected Fulshear.
