Fulshear High School Junior Crowned Fort Bend County Fair Queen

September 30 2023

Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo is off to a royal start! Sixteen-year-old Kathryn Grace Tompkins, a junior at Fulshear High School, was crowned the 2023 Fort Bend County Fair Queen. Queen Kathryn is the daughter of Brian and Shannon Tompkins and the youngest of three sisters. Kathryn earned the crown in a fierce journey among ten young ladies. With the title, Kathryn will represent the Fair during the Fair’s run and will serve as a Fair ambassador throughout the year. She also receives a $5,000 scholarship, crowns, buckle, life membership, and more. Aleida Martinez of Austin High School  was named First Runner up and Miss Congeniality was awarded to Hannah Funderburk of Foster High School.

Kathryn is the President of Wild West 4-H Club and the Vice President for Fulshear FFA, where she enjoys working with her peers in various activities and contests. As a sophomore, Kathryn received her Texas FFA Lonestar Degree, a considerable accomplishment at a young age. She spends most of her time working in the barn, caring for her show heifers and steers. As a volunteer, Kathryn gives her time to various organizations, mentoring younger students and serving in programs she has been involved in. Her most recent is the Junior Rodeo Committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Queen Kathryn is considering attending Texas A&M or Oklahoma State University after high school. She credits her teacher, Ms. Kasie Vestal, for pushing her to follow her dreams and has played a large part in showing what it means to be a leader and how to face adversity with strength and dignity. Kathryn enjoys traveling, spending time with her sisters and nieces, and swimming. The Fort Bend County Fair is going on now through October 8.
