Free Spurs Back to School Bash Returns to Frost Bank Center With School Supplies, Health Screenings and Family Resources
For thousands of San Antonio families preparing for a new school year, the cost of backpacks, notebooks, health appointments and other essentials can add up quickly. A free community event at Frost Bank Center aims to help ease some of that pressure while giving students, parents and teachers a place to find several important resources under one roof.
Spurs Sports & Entertainment will host its fifth annual SS&E Back to School Bash from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Frost Bank Center. The event is open to parents, students and educators serving grades K-12, but advance registration is required.
School supplies, screenings and other services will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
What Families Can Find at the SS&E Back to School Bash
Through partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, community organizations and school districts, the free San Antonio back-to-school event will offer more than backpacks and classroom supplies.
Available services and resources are expected to include:
- School supplies for students in kindergarten through 12th grade
- Dental screenings
- Heart screenings
- Glucose screenings
- Haircuts
- School enrollment information
- Extracurricular activity resources
- Mental health support information
- Family support services
The event is designed to help families address several back-to-school needs in one visit, including health concerns that might otherwise delay a student’s start to the academic year.
“Every student deserves to begin the school year with the tools and confidence they need to succeed,” said Patricia Mejia, Chief Impact & Inclusion Officer at SS&E. “Back to School Bash is about removing barriers for families while bringing our community together to support students and educators. We’re grateful to our partners who make this event possible and help set thousands of young people up for a strong start to the school year.”
Event Has Served Thousands of San Antonio Families
Since the SS&E Back to School Bash began five years ago, the event has welcomed more than 14,000 attendees.
During the past two years alone, organizers say the program has provided more than 1,400 health screenings, 1,000 dental screenings and cleanings, and 23,000 school supplies.
This year’s event is expected to draw between 3,000 and 6,000 young people and family members, reinforcing the continued need for free school supplies and family assistance programs in San Antonio.
Staff volunteers will help guide attendees, assist with haircut check-ins, distribute food bank items, support photo areas and staff water stations. Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially needed, although the volunteer opportunity is limited to SS&E employees.
What Parents and Teachers Need to Know
Parents or guardians must remain with their children during the Back to School Bash. Teachers who attend must present a valid teacher identification card at entry.
The public event will run from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. A separate SS&E staff volunteer schedule begins at 11 a.m. and extends through 3:30 p.m., but those expanded hours are for event preparation and volunteer duties rather than general attendance.
Because supplies, screenings and services are limited, families may want to arrive early and complete the required registration before event day.
A Community Effort Ahead of the New School Year
Spurs Sports & Entertainment is best known locally for the San Antonio Spurs, but the organization also operates the Austin Spurs and San Antonio FC and manages venues including Frost Bank Center, The Rock at La Cantera, Toyota Field and Ricos STAR Soccer Complex.
The Back to School Bash reflects the organization’s broader community focus by connecting students and educators with practical assistance before the first school bell rings.
For families facing rising school-related expenses or difficulty accessing basic screenings and support services, the event offers more than a giveaway. It provides a community-supported starting point for the school year — one intended to help students walk into the classroom feeling prepared, healthy and encouraged.
