Free AARP Tax Help at Fort Bend County's Fulshear Branch Library This April
Low-income taxpayers in Fort Bend County can once again access free income-tax preparation assistance this spring, thanks to a partnership between Fort Bend County Libraries and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. The service is available by appointment only at select library branches, including the Fulshear Branch Library, through April 15, 2025.
At the Fulshear Branch Library, located at 6350 GM Library Road off Texas Heritage Parkway, AARP tax volunteers will be available to assist eligible taxpayers on Wednesdays, April 2 and April 9, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. in the library’s Multipurpose Room.
The program offers free tax filing help for individuals with low to moderate income, with a particular focus on taxpayers aged 50 and older. However, AARP membership is not required, and services are open to anyone who qualifies.

About AARP Foundation Tax-Aide
The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service. Each year, thousands of IRS-certified volunteers assist older Americans and those with limited income in preparing and filing their federal income tax returns. According to AARP, the program helped more than 1.5 million people file taxes in 2023 alone.
AARP’s mission behind the program is not only to help taxpayers avoid costly tax-preparation fees, but also to ensure they receive the maximum refund or benefit available to them, including tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit.
Importance of Free Tax Help for Seniors and Low-Income Households
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reports that millions of Americans qualify for tax credits and deductions but miss out due to confusion or lack of access to trusted preparation services. Free tax help programs like AARP Foundation Tax-Aide are designed to bridge that gap by offering expert guidance and support in community settings.
Libraries, in particular, serve as trusted local hubs where residents can receive free assistance in a safe, accessible environment. “Programs like these empower people to take control of their finances and ease the stress of tax season,” said a representative from Fort Bend County Libraries.
