The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2024-2025 season opener: “An Afternoon at the Opera,” exhibiting on October 20 at the Stafford Centre. The performance will introduce patrons to a meticulously chosen selection of opera arias and choruses, backed by the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
Two guest artists, René Vasquez (tenor), and Dominique McCormick (soprano), are slated to feature in the concert. Highlights include "Anvil Chorus" from Verdi’s Il torvatore, "Va, Pensiero," from Nabucco, and the Polovtsian Dances from Borodin’s Prince Igor. Soprano Dominique McCormick will perform "Casta Diva" from Norma and Vilja from The Merry Widow, while Tenor René Vasquez will render "Una Furtiva Lagrima" from the Elixir of Love and "Granada" by Lara. McCormick and Vasquez will also ally for a duet from Bizet’s Carmen, "Parle-moi de ma mère," and conclude the performance with the chorus in the Brindisi from Verdi’s La Traviata.
