Fort Bend Museum to Host Hispanic Heritage Celebration
On Saturday, September 16, the Fort Bend community is invited to celebrate the launch of the Fort Bend Museum's digital Spanish translation of their permanent exhibit with Tiempo de Celebrar, a bilingual, intergenerational celebration with educational offerings featuring hands-on activities, art and community exhibitions, and performances showcasing Hispanic culture and history.
From 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, participants can enjoy hands-on children's activities and crafts, a collaborative community art project led by Lamar Consolidated High School art teacher Constintine Lopez and art students, self-guided tours of the 1883 Moore home on the first floor, and digital Spanish-translated self-guided tours of the permanent exhibit. A community curated exhibit on Hispanic heritage in Fort Bend County, plus "Visiones de Identidad" presented by Catapult Gallery will be on view.
At 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, Fort Bend County Libraries will present bilingual story time, with a Cuban beverage demonstration and samples provided at 2:00 PM. Then at 3:00 PM, guests can meet the artists featured in "Visiones de Identidad"presented by Catapult Gallery. A lively performance by Mixteco Ballet Folkloric will begin at 4:30 PM, followed by a concern on the lawn from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
The event is free and open to the public. Festivities will take place at the Fort Bend Museum, located at 410 S 5th Street in Richmond. Founded in 1972, the Fort Bend Museum is owned and operated by the Fort Bend History Association, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to sharing and preserving Fort Bend County history. The Museum is supported by the Fort Bend Museum Docents, members, donors and friends.
The permanent Exhibit Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and historic house tours are held at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM from Tuesday through Friday, as well as 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Saturday.
