Fort Bend Master Gardeners to Host Fruit Tree Sale

From citrus - grapefruit and lemon - to pome fruits - pears and apples, Fort Bend County Master Gardeners will have a fruit tree for you at their sale on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The 23rd annual sale will open at 9 a.m. in Barn H of the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds, located at 4310 Texas 36 S. in Rosenberg, and close at noon or until sold out. Last year's sale sold out in less than an hour.

Citrus trees at the sale include grapefruit, lemon, lime, mandarin, orange, pummelo, satsuma and tangerine. All citrus trees available at the sale are certified to be disease free.

Blueberry and blackberry bushes are part of the sale as are avocado, coffee, dragonfruit, fig, olive, peach, pear and plum trees. The lineup includes apricot, banana and loquat trees, too.

An estimated 75 different varieties of fruit trees, berries and tropicals/sub-tropicals will be for sale with approximately 1,000 different plants available. Fort Bend Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions about how to plant and care for your new tree or plant.

Proceeds from the sale are earmarked for the nonprofit Fort Bend County Master Gardeners Inc. The organization's goal is to provide research-backed horticulture advice to residents of Fort Bend County, in support of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Master Gardeners will have a limited number of wagons to assist shoppers in transporting their purchases. Shoppers may bring their own hand-drawn wagon if they prefer not to wait for a wagon.

About Fort Bend County Master Gardeners

Master Gardeners are members of the local community who take an active interest in their lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens. They are willing to learn and to help others, and able to communicate with diverse groups of people. What sets Master Gardeners apart from other home gardeners is their special training in horticulture. In exchange for their training, persons who become Master Gardeners contribute time as volunteers, working through their cooperative Extension office to provide horticultural-related information to their communities.
