Fort Bend County Young Artists Invited to Participate in Local Poetry and Writing Contest Honoring Black History Month

January 22 2024

Celebrating Black History Month with a unique infusion of creativity, the EEYP (Exposing Excellence Youth Program) Black History Month Poetry & Writing Contest is once again open for submissions for the 2024 season. In line with the organization's goals, the competition aims to foster an encouraging environment for youthful engagement and facilitate positive self-expression and artistic development.

The contest, piloted by EEYP, is open to all middle and high school students residing in Fort Bend County. Eligibility includes students aged 10-17 enrolled in any school within the county, including those who are homeschooled.

Participants are urged to submit their original poems via the online form provided. Each submission needs to be unique and original— a reflection of the writer's authentic voice and creativity. Submissions are due online through this website by noon on February 16th. Please note that submissions sent via email will not be accepted.

The best of these poetic creations will not go unrecognized. The top three finalists will be honored at the 3rd Annual Exposing Black Artistry event on February 24th at Landmark Community Center. Finalists will be contacted in advance and must be present at the event to accept their prize.

For further information or any inquiries, participants can reach the EEYP Coordinators at raven.forrester@fortbendcountytx.gov or wendi.palomera@fortbendcountytx.gov. Fort Bend County youth are invited to embark on this journey of creative expression with EEYP, and make Black History Month in 2024 one to remember.
