Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office Honors Dispatch Team and Expands Emergency Communications Capabilities
As National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week came to a close, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBCSO) took a moment to shine a light on the extraordinary work of its emergency dispatch personnel, while also celebrating the addition of new team members and ongoing investments in public safety infrastructure.
“These dispatchers are the unsung heroes behind every call for help,” said Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan. “From fielding thousands of calls to serving as a lifeline during moments of crisis, we’re grateful for their dedication—not just this week, but every day of the year.”
Behind the Scenes at the FBCSO Dispatch Center
The FBCSO Communications Center plays a vital role in public safety operations throughout Fort Bend County, handling police, fire, and EMS dispatch not only for the Sheriff’s Office but also for 14 other jurisdictions across the region. In 2024 alone, the center received an astounding 169,749 emergency 9-1-1 calls, with 95% of them answered in 15 seconds or less—a testament to the efficiency and readiness of the department’s telecommunicators.
Recognizing the crucial need for high-performance personnel in such roles, the Sheriff’s Office proudly welcomed six newly licensed Telecommunicator Cadets who recently graduated from the HCC Emergency Dispatch Public Safety Telecommunicator Academy. These cadets, now certified through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), will begin their Field Training Officer (FTO) program, continuing their journey to becoming full-time emergency dispatchers.

“We’re excited to welcome the newest voices of calm in the chaos to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office,” the agency shared.
Statewide Recognition for FBCSO Telecommunicators
Two standout members of the FBCSO Communications Team were recently honored with prestigious awards for their excellence in emergency communications:
Telecommunicator Officer Brett Planka received the Texas APCO Telecommunicator of the Year Award for his exceptional composure and skill in managing a high-pressure emergency call. Additionally, Telecommunicator Officer Krystal Blaze was recognized with the Texas NENA Silent Hero Certificate of Recognition for her unwavering professionalism and consistent performance during critical incidents.

“These two dispatchers truly embody the heart of what it means to serve as the first, first responders,” the Sheriff’s Office noted.
Investing in the Future: New Emergency Communications Center Underway
In addition to celebrating current team members, FBCSO is also looking ahead. In early 2024, the department broke ground on a state-of-the-art regional training facility located at 2710 Stella Road in Rosenberg, which will include a new Emergency Communications Center.
Set to be completed by December 2025, this 98,669-square-foot facility is part of a broader $40 million investment in public safety infrastructure. Once finished, it will house dispatchers, telecommunicators, supervisors, and support staff on the second floor, offering advanced tools, training environments, and collaborative workspaces.
“This is an outstanding opportunity for law enforcement personnel in Fort Bend County and this region to receive skills-based training in a modern facility with a quality firearms range, well-designed driving track, progressive computer lab, and technologically advanced classrooms,” Sheriff Fagan said.
The new complex—approved by the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court—is being built on publicly owned land with long-term leasing and funding agreements in place. The Fort Bend County Texas Public Facility Corporation committed $150 million to support the project, ensuring that future generations of public safety professionals will have access to top-tier resources.
