Fort Bend County Nonprofit Takes One Small Step for Kindness to Caregivers

October 23 2023

Local resident, Rachel Garza, and a growing fleet of volunteers of all ages are on mission to bring a moment of joy to working caregivers, one act at a time in Fort Bend County. Born from an uncertain time while caring for her premature newborn and realizing the immense care and compassion extended to her and her family during their lengthly hospital stay, Garza found inspiration to create Care for Caregivers-Texas, which aims to show appreciation to caregivers by supporting non-profits and small businesses in Fort Bend County TX.

This family-run nonprofit's most recent care-campaign brought 500 'Xander' comfort toys to children in foster care in Fort Bend County. The comfort toys were created and donated by Lavender Life Co, a small lavender farm in Michigan from their 'buy one, donate one' program. To date, they have distributed over 80,000 Xanders nationwide to foster children on a county-by-county basis through community partnerships with organizations like ours. Each super-soft Xander friend (bunny, dog or cat) comes with a warm-able lavender pouch, a glow in the dark heart on its foot and comes in its own linen back-pack.

Their next care-campaign in honor of Veterans Day will collect and fundraise for hygiene care items for homeless veterans, currently sheltered at the Warriors Refuge. Follow the CFCT's activities on their website CareforCaregiversTexas.org or on Facebook @CareforCaregiversTX to learn how you can get involved.  For information on 'Xander' friends, visit Lavender-Life.com.
