Fort Bend County Mourns Deputy Marcelo Garcia: Community Invited to BBQ Benefit and Memorial Services

March 25 2025

The Fort Bend County community is coming together in mourning and solidarity following the tragic passing of Deputy Marcelo Garcia, a dedicated member of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBCSO), who died in an off-duty motorcycle accident on March 16, 2025. In honor of his life and service, a public BBQ benefit will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, to support Deputy Garcia’s family during this time of loss.

The BBQ fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy parking lot, located at 1521 Eugene Heimann Circle in Richmond, Texas. Plates will be sold for $15, including chicken, sausage, rice, beans, and a drink. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Deputy Garcia’s family.

Additionally, a Candlelight Memorial honoring Deputy Garcia will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Sugar Land Memorial Park (15300 University Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479), offering a quiet space for community members, colleagues, friends, and loved ones to gather in remembrance and reflection.

“Deputy Garcia dedicated his career to serving and protecting our community,” the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office shared in an official statement. “Throughout his years of service, he held various roles, including Detention Deputy in the jail and Patrol Deputy. Most recently, he served on the Traffic Enforcement Unit. Rest in peace, Deputy Garcia. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Garcia, who was 35 years old, was born in Houston on March 15, 1990. He joined the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in April 2012 and became known for his work ethic, dedication, and kind-hearted nature. His most recent role with the Traffic Enforcement Unit put him at the forefront of ensuring public safety on local roadways.

According to the Sugar Land Police Department, Deputy Garcia was involved in a fatal off-duty crash in the early morning hours on Sunday, March 16, 2025 when his motorcycle struck the rear of another vehicle. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The passengers in the other vehicle were unharmed.

Constable Chad Norvell of Fort Bend County Precinct 1 reflected on the loss, saying, “He was a good man that served Fort Bend County well.”

The community will also have the opportunity to honor Deputy Garcia during his memorial services. A public visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home (12555 S. Kirkwood Road in Stafford), with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will follow on Saturday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church (705 St. Theresa Blvd in Sugar Land). A reception will be held immediately after the service, with the location to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the Garcia family is accepting memorial contributions to help support them through this difficult time.
