Fort Bend County Master Gardeners to Host Fall Vegetable and Herb Plant Sale Featuring Carefully Selected Plants Tailored for Fort Bend County's Climate
Garden enthusiasts across Fort Bend County are diligently preparing for the much-anticipated Fall Vegetable/Herb Plant Sale, slated for Oct. 12. Organized by the Fort Bend County Master Gardeners, the event promises a wide variety of vegetable and herb plants, carefully nurtured by the Master Gardeners in the Extension Greenhouse. The sale will take place at the Extension Education Center, located at 1402 Band Road in Rosenberg, from 9:00 AM to noon or until all plants are sold.
Master Gardeners like Suzanne Welch have been meticulously caring for the plants, selecting varieties that thrive in Fort Bend County’s climate. “The buttercrunch lettuce looks beautiful. It's very full already,” Welch says with evident pride. Event attendees can look forward to other lettuce varieties as well, including Arugula, Black-Seeded Simpson-Heirloom, Oakleaf, and Red Salad Bowl.
The event not only caters to the horticultural needs of the community but also plays a vital role in funding the Fort Bend County Master Gardeners (FBCMG), a volunteer organization affiliated with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s Horticulture program. Founded in 1990, FBCMG has been instrumental in bolstering Fort Bend County's horticultural scene through initiatives such as answering gardening inquiries, conducting classes, maintaining demonstration gardens, and engaging with the younger generation to spread horticultural awareness.
