Fort Bend County Brings Textile Recycling to Select Parks
Fort Bend Green, along with the Keep Fort Bend Beautiful committee, are partnering with Green City Recycler and Fort Bend County Parks to bring textile recycling to Fort Bend County. Convenient bins have been placed at three parks throughout the County: Jones Creek Ranch Park, Kitty Hollow Park and Four Corners Recreation Center.
If you have any textiles that you’re ready to part with but are not suitable for donation, please drop them in any of these bins! Accepted materials include clothing, shoes, household items, hats, belts, purses, and small appliances. Items that cannot be accepted include mattresses, furniture and large appliances.
This initiative is made possible through Green City Recycler, a Houston-based textile recycling company that diverts used clothing, shoes, and other household items from the local landfill. Items collected at Green City Recycler’s recycling pods are sent to their pre-sorting center, where they are diligently sorted into categories like textiles, books, toys, and more, with textiles further graded by condition and either sold to markets in need of used clothing or repurposed into industrial materials.
According to the EPA, landfills across the United States received 11.3 million tons of textiles in 2018, with numbers continuing to rise year after year.
All donations will generate a rebate of 5 cents per pound to be paid to Fort Bend Green for park beautification efforts. Help support Fort Bend County parks while also easing the burden on landfills and caring for the earth.
