Explore These Local Parks During National Parks and Recreation Month

Whether you want to walk on tree-shaded nature trails, cool off in the water, view exotic animals, or play with your pup, there is a place for everyone to have fun in Precinct 4 during National Parks and Recreation Month.

Harris County Precinct 4 is home to 54 parks covering 13,455 acres of green space for users of all abilities, ages, and incomes. With so many parks accessible to residents, HCP4 has highlighted a few spots throughout the Precinct that should make your list of places to explore.

Bear Creek Pioneers Park

Few places offer the opportunity to play baseball, soccer, and view animals in a wildlife habitat, but that is what makes Bear Creek Pioneers Park so unique. The park features multiple playgrounds, trails, 18 baseball/ softball fields, 26 soccer fields, two pickleball courts, nine pavilions, a wildlife habitat, and a war memorial.

The wildlife habitat allows residents to interact and learn about exotic wildlife under the care of trained professionals.

Zube Park, Nottingham Park, and McClendon Park

Splash pads are a great way to stay cool under the south Texas sun.

Zube Park, Nottingham Park, and McClendon Park each have some of Precinct 4’s best and largest splash pads. These parks also feature expansive playgrounds, amongst other family-friendly amenities.

Terry Hershey Park and Hike & Bike Trail Parks

Staying active this summer?

Our 11-mile-long trail located at Terry Hershey Park is the perfect scenic path for a bike ride or hike. Don’t let the 11-miles scare you — Precinct 4 is also home to shorter yet still beautiful and scenic trails like Brays Bayou Hike & Bike Trail, Arthur Storey Park and Mason Creek Park. With Trails ranging from a mile to 11 miles, Precinct 4’s Parks have a trail perfect for everyone.

Kleb Woods and Nature Preserve Parks

Come for relaxing walks through nature, stay for the interesting history Kleb Woods Preserve & Center.

This preserve, opened in 1907, was previously farmland owned by the Kleb Family and was later turned into a forested preserve. Visitors can explore the old Kleb homestead and blacksmith shop, by appointment. Nature-lovers can also enjoy Don Greene Nature Park and Bonham Family Nature Park.

Precinct 4 Dog Parks

It’s National Parks and Recreation Month for Precinct 4 dogs, too!

Open from dawn to dusk, Precinct 4’s Dog Parks always have time for your furry friends. Although most of Precinct 4 Parks welcome leashed dogs, Beverly Kaufman Dog Park, Congressman Bill Archer Dog Park, and Millie Bush Dog Park recognize the need for dogs to exercise, socialize, and play freely.

Parks aren’t just about activities and playgrounds – they’re about placemaking. Precinct 4 creates spaces and opportunities for residents to thrive and connect. From family outings to running rituals, Precinct 4 strives to support residents in living happier, healthier lives.
