New Lajita Bakery Planned for Cypress with Mexican Pastries, Cakes, Taqueria and Carnicería Concepts
As Cypress continues to grow with new neighborhoods, businesses and dining options, another locally inspired concept is preparing to join the community’s expanding food scene. Lajita Bakery, a Mexican bakery known for its artisan breads, pastries and traditional flavors, is planning a new location at Tealbrook Center on FM 529 near Fry Road.
According to state construction filings, the project will renovate an existing vacant tenant space at 20400 FM Road 529, Suite 200 in Cypress. The build-out is expected to begin June 19, 2026, with completion projected by Oct. 30, 2026.
The $250,000 interior renovation will transform roughly 3,662 square feet into a bakery space designed for food service operations, including new interior finishes, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work, accessibility upgrades and specialized bakery equipment installations.
For residents in Cypress and northwest Harris County, the addition reflects the area’s continued demand for family-oriented dining and culturally rooted local businesses. The bakery’s branding emphasizes authentic Mexican baking traditions, handcrafted pastries and recipes centered around bringing families together around the table.
“A delicious food that brightens up your table,” one section of the bakery’s promotional materials reads, highlighting the company’s focus on traditional Mexican breads, cakes and desserts made with what it describes as “passion and care in every preparation.”
The bakery also promotes more than a decade of experience serving Mexican baked goods and desserts. While the Cypress location will be new to the area, Lajita Bakery already operates locations in Cleveland, Texas, where the business has built a following around traditional Mexican breads, pastries and desserts. Existing locations include one at 220 S. Washington Ave. in downtown Cleveland and another at 14 County Road 3479.
In addition to bakery offerings, project information also references carnicería and taqueria concepts, suggesting the Cypress location could eventually offer more than baked goods alone. While final menus and operational details have not yet been announced, the combination could provide residents with another locally accessible option for Mexican cuisine and specialty foods close to home.
The project site along FM 529 places the future bakery near several fast-growing residential communities, where new commercial development has steadily followed population growth. For many families, locally owned restaurants and bakeries often become gathering places tied to neighborhood identity, celebrations and daily routines.
The arrival of a traditional Mexican bakery also reflects the increasing diversity of Cypress’ dining landscape as the area continues evolving into one of the Houston region’s largest suburban communities.
Lajita Bakery’s materials describe its mission as preserving “the essence of our culture” through baking while creating experiences centered on family, tradition and quality. The company highlights fresh breads, handcrafted cakes and pastries intended to bring familiar flavors and comfort to customers.
Additional details about opening timelines and future menu offerings are expected closer to completion later this year.
