Experience Tradition and Family Fun at the 33rd Annual Czech Kolache-Klobase Festival
Get ready to experience a day of fun, food, and music at the 33rd year of the Czech Kolache-Klobase Festival scheduled for Saturday, June 8, 2024. This annual celebration held at Riverside Hall in East Bernard, a short drive southwest of Houston, shines a spotlight on ethnic heritage and culture for all to enjoy.
This year's festival promises an incredible lineup of musicians such as the Ennis Czech Boys, Czech & Then Some, Dujka Brothers, Red Ravens and Al Sulak's Country Sounds, with performances kicking off at 10:30 AM and running until 8:00 PM. Don't miss the main event, a three-band concert at 4:30 PM inside the hall, featuring Czech & Then Some, Dujka Brothers, and Red Ravens.
A fan favorite, the Kolache Eating Contest sponsored by the KJT State Office, will be at 2:00 PM in the pavilion. If you think you have what it takes, this could be your time to shine.
Admission to the festival is a modest $10, while children aged 12 and under enter free. This includes all entertainment, with free parking and ample handicap spaces. For those concerned about the heat, large water fans will be cooling the pavilion for the comfort of dancers and spectators alike.
The festival also offers a unique shopping experience, with arts and crafts booths spread inside and outside the hall. From hand-crafted items, jewelry, clothing and more, you can also try your luck in the silent auction, cake walk, or buy raffle tickets to win beautifully made quilts.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Czech festival without a traditional plate lunch featuring sausage, barbecue chicken, sauerkraut, and other trimmings prepared on-site. Serving starts at 11:00 AM, with drive-thru plates-to-go available from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A variety of food items including hamburgers, sausage sandwiches, and the ever-popular kolaches will also be on sale throughout the day.
The festival is not just about music and food. The KJT Society No. 40, the non-profit organization sponsoring the festival since 1905, encourages everyone to don their Czech costumes and partake in a grand march, featuring a parade of Czech and festive costumes, enhancing the cultural ambiance. At 3:00 PM, a moving flag tribute honoring attending veterans is scheduled, celebrating both Czech heritage and those who have served.
