Davenport High School Wins Texas UIL 4A Lone Star Cup, Capping Six Years of Building a Championship Culture

June 19 2026

For students, families and educators in Comal ISD, Davenport High School's latest achievement is about much more than trophies and titles. It is a recognition of a school culture that has rapidly grown into one of the most successful and well-rounded programs in Texas.

Davenport High School has been awarded the 2026 Texas UIL 4A Lone Star Cup, one of the state's most prestigious honors for high schools. The award recognizes overall excellence across academics, athletics and fine arts, placing Davenport among the top-performing schools in Texas despite opening its doors just six years ago.

For a campus that proudly embraces the motto "Building the Pack," or "BTP," the honor serves as a milestone in a journey that has focused on helping students discover their passions and find opportunities to excel both inside and outside the classroom.

What Is the Texas UIL Lone Star Cup?

Awarded annually by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the Lone Star Cup recognizes one high school in each UIL classification for achieving the highest overall success across a broad range of competitive activities.

Unlike awards that focus solely on sports or academics, the Lone Star Cup measures achievement across nearly every aspect of student involvement. Schools earn points through state and district-level success in athletics, fine arts and academic competitions, including activities such as marching band, one-act play, computer science, football, basketball, track and field, debate and more.

The six winning schools receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy along with a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau.

For Davenport High School, earning the 2026 UIL 4A Lone Star Cup represents the culmination of years of investment by students, teachers, coaches, directors, families and community supporters.

A Community Built on Participation and Belonging

Davenport Principal Angela Looney said the award reflects a collective effort that extends throughout the campus community.

"We are honored and excited to have received the Lone Star Cup," Looney said.

"Our students, teachers and families continue to raise the bar on what they can achieve together. From our sports and band to our CTE and ROTC programs, our students are connected and involved, ensuring that everyone belongs to the Wolf Pack."

Looney said the culture at Davenport has been centered on creating opportunities for students to engage in activities that match their interests while supporting one another's success.

"We have truly built a community that works together, cheers for one another and encourages one another," she said. "It is a privilege to be a member of this pack."

That sense of belonging has become a defining characteristic of the growing campus and a major factor behind its rapid rise among Texas high schools.

State-Level Success Across Multiple Programs

The Lone Star Cup rewards depth as much as excellence, and Davenport's score was built through outstanding performances across numerous programs during the 2025-26 school year.

Among the school's highest state-level achievements were:

  • Girls Cross Country Team — 4th place at the UIL State Meet
  • Marching Band — 2nd in State and 1st in percussion
  • Spirit Cheer Team — 2nd in State and Best of Category for Band Chant
  • Boys Swim Team — 4th in State, highlighted by three individual gold medals and a bronze-medal relay performance
  • Girls Basketball Team — State Semifinalist
  • Girls Soccer Team — 3rd in State

Additional points came through playoff advancement and postseason success in tennis, girls and boys water polo, volleyball, football, boys basketball, softball and baseball.

The breadth of those accomplishments demonstrates what makes the Lone Star Cup unique. Success in one area alone is not enough. Schools must show excellence across a wide range of disciplines, rewarding campuses that create opportunities for students with different talents and interests.

What This Means for Comal ISD

As one of the newest high schools in the region, Davenport's rise has been remarkable.

Winning the UIL 4A Lone Star Cup in only its sixth year sends a powerful message about the strength of student programs within Comal ISD and the commitment of educators, coaches, fine arts directors and families who help support them.

The achievement also highlights a growing trend among Texas schools: success is increasingly measured by creating opportunities for students to thrive in multiple areas, whether through athletics, fine arts, academic competitions, career and technical education programs or leadership organizations.

For Davenport students, the award validates years of hard work. For families, it reinforces the value of a campus culture built around participation, connection and achievement.

And for the Wolf Pack community, it represents another chapter in a story that continues to unfold far faster than many could have imagined when the school first opened its doors.

What Happens Next

With a UIL Lone Star Cup now added to its growing list of accomplishments, Davenport High School enters the 2026-27 school year as the top overall UIL 4A program in Texas.

The challenge ahead will be maintaining that standard while continuing to expand opportunities for future students.

If the first six years are any indication, the Wolf Pack has no plans to slow down.
