In collaboration with HCA North Cypress Hospital, Cypress Falls High School will host a Prostate Cancer Screening Clinic on Monday, Sept. 9 from 3-8 p.m. The event, held in honor of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, will coincide with the Cypress Falls Open House to allow staff and community members easier accessibility to the event.
“At HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, we take pride in giving back to our community,” said Carley Childs, HCA North Cypress communications and community engagement director. “In this case, providing free prostate screenings ensures that the men in our community are educated with how to keep themselves healthy.”
Approximately 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. To help discover a diagnosis early, it is recommended that all men begin screening at the age of 40. This five-minute screening will mail results to participants within two weeks.
“I think any type of screening is such a great way to stay proactive or to stay in front of your health concerns right,” said Becky Denton, Cypress Falls principal. “Early diagnosis of anything is the best way to heal it quicker. But also, very few people I know really take the time to go and really get all their screenings done, their doctors, their dentist, and all the things they need to go to every year, so this is so great because we’re community partners with the hospital.”
HCA North Cypress Hospital adopted Cypress Falls in August of 2019. Childs said that this kind of partnership is important because it allows them to help and educate the community.
“We find that adopting Cypress Falls High School not only brings the two entities (school and hospital) together, but also provides links to each other that they might not have.” Childs said. “We love supporting our community and Cy Falls is an important part of that.”
This partnership over the years has gone beyond just medical and included mentors from the hospital for students as well as care bags for patients from Cypress Falls.
“Cypress Falls is an excellent school with a large presence in our community and their staff have been outstanding to work with over the years,” said Janet Pollard, HCA manager.
