Cy Falls High School Organizations Support Community with Thanksgiving Ruby Baskets

The Cypress Falls High School National Honor Society (NHS) recently provided 20 Thanksgiving “Ruby Baskets” to families in need, showing a dedication to serving the Cypress Falls community.

The “Ruby Baskets” were inspired by the late mother of Becky Denton, Cypress Falls principal. Denton’s mother had a deep passion for helping families in need during the holiday season.

“Around Halloween each year my mother would start going to the store, getting the ingredients to make a Thanksgiving meal,” Denton said. “She did this my whole life. When she passed away, which was around the time of Halloween, I thought, ‘you know, wouldn’t it be great if I just collected some canned goods at her funeral and make it into a basket?’ Well, people turned out at the funeral with tons of canned goods and other Thanksgiving related things and I was able to make tens of baskets for people so we gave them to people in her honor.”

With the support of Rho Kappa and the Cypress Falls social studies department food drive, NHS successfully distributed the baskets with Thanksgiving essentials.

“I am incredibly proud of the NHS community at Cypress Falls for their dedication to not only our school, but also the greater Cy-Fair community,” said Evelyn Hooten, Cypress Falls NHS co-sponsor.

This project is one of many ways NHS continues to give back to Cypress Falls. Through initiatives like this, NHS members have inspired others and strengthened the community, all while setting a standard for service and leadership.

“I love how students from all across the building came together to be part of this,” said Kellye Sandlin, Cypress Falls Rho Kappa sponsor. “It was so successful. We put together 20 full boxes and we even had enough left over to create five additional boxes.”

This act of generosity reflects the National Honor Society’s ongoing commitment to foster unity and make a positive impact beyond Cypress Falls.

“There are more people in need than we often realize,” said Taylor Suppo, Cypress Falls NHS co-sponsor. “Sometimes those who need help the most aren’t who you’d expect.”
