Cy-Fair ISD Opens Registration for 2025 Junior Police Academy: Hands-On Summer Program Teaches Kids Leadership and Safety
Registration is now open for the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Police Department’s 2025 Junior Police Academy (JPA), a full-day summer program designed to educate and inspire students ages 9 to 12 through real-world law enforcement training and interactive experiences.
The Junior Police Academy is part of CFISD’s ongoing efforts to promote safety awareness, youth leadership development, and positive community engagement. This immersive summer program will take place at two locations:
- Wells Elementary School: June 23–27, 2025
- Campbell Middle School: July 14–18, 2025
Parents and guardians can complete the online registration through the district website. Enrollment is processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and the participation fee is $120 per student.
A Practical Introduction to Law Enforcement
The Junior Police Academy is led by the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Police Department, a fully accredited, 24-hour law enforcement agency responsible for safeguarding students, staff, and district property. The academy introduces children to police operations through age-appropriate instruction that emphasizes teamwork, responsibility, and practical skills.
Cadets participate in daily activities designed to simulate real-life scenarios and build confidence. These include:
- Crime scene and fingerprinting simulations
- Defensive tactics and basic self-discipline training
- Mapping and navigation through scavenger hunts
- Physical fitness challenges, including an obstacle course
- Emergency response training, such as the “Stop the Bleed” tourniquet program
- K-9 demonstrations highlighting drug awareness and safety
Each element of the program is intended to help students better understand law enforcement roles while learning critical life skills in a structured, supportive setting.

Building Confidence, Safety Awareness, and Respect
The Junior Police Academy extends beyond public safety education by reinforcing values like integrity, respect, leadership, and decision-making. Participants engage in both individual and group tasks that promote collaboration and self-discipline. Officers work closely with students throughout the week, helping them apply these lessons in practical ways.
The program also introduces students to the broader importance of community policing. By engaging youth early and building familiarity with local law enforcement, CFISD fosters a sense of trust and civic responsibility that often extends beyond the classroom and into the broader community.
National Support for Early Public Safety Education
Youth programs that focus on law enforcement education have been supported by national public safety and child advocacy organizations. Groups such as the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) emphasize that these types of initiatives provide valuable opportunities to teach children about safety, situational awareness, and the importance of community partnerships.
Research consistently points to the benefits of structured summer learning experiences, particularly those that combine physical activity, character education, and practical skill-building. As more families seek meaningful summer programs for school-aged children, academies like CFISD’s continue to meet that need while promoting public trust in law enforcement.
