Cy-Fair High School Senior Ashley Johnson Wins UIL H-E-B Athletic Scholarship
Ashley Johnson, a senior at Cy-Fair High School, has been named one of just five student-athletes across Texas to receive the prestigious UIL H-E-B Athletic Scholarship. The $2,000 award, announced on May 14, recognizes students who not only excel in University Interscholastic League (UIL) athletics, but also demonstrate outstanding academic performance and a commitment to community service.
Each year, H-E-B partners with UIL to award 15 scholarships to high school seniors across the state. The scholarship program selects five students from each of three categories—athletics (including cheer), music, and academics. Now in its seventh year, the initiative celebrates Texas students who exemplify leadership and service both on and off the field.
Academic Excellence Meets Community Commitment
Johnson’s selection highlights a year filled with accolades and achievements. A well-rounded student-athlete with a GPA above 3.3, she met all the scholarship criteria, which include participation in UIL activities and documented community involvement.
“I’m so excited, it’s definitely such an honor and such a blessing to receive this scholarship,” said Johnson. “I’m ready to go to college and use this scholarship to help me achieve great things.”

Her journey has already been spotlighted on Fox 26 Houston’s Making The Grade segment in April, where she was recognized for both her academic and athletic accomplishments. She was also a recipient of the Cy-Fair Women’s Club 2025 Scholarship Awards, further solidifying her role as a leader among her peers.
A Bright Future at Texas A&M
Johnson plans to attend Texas A&M University in the fall, where she will major in Biomedical Engineering. Her ultimate goal? To design cutting-edge sports and health equipment that can improve lives.
The UIL H-E-B scholarship program places strong emphasis on students who make meaningful contributions to their communities—an area in which Johnson has consistently stood out.
