Opening Reception: Land of the Free, Home of the Brave (image is a generic illustration, not Mendez’s artwork) takes place at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin on Saturday, bringing art, remembrance, and conversation into one shared community space.
The exhibit features portraits by Franklin Mendez, an Austin-born Marine Corps and Vietnam veteran whose work documents local veterans and their stories. The reception adds live music, speakers, refreshments, and exhibit viewing, making it an especially meaningful option for those looking for veterans-related events in Austin beyond the parade route.
