Cinco Ranch Resident Installs Duck Nesting Boxes at Oxbow Lake

On March 13, Varun Mudunuri of Boy Scout Troop 1103 installed wood duck nesting boxes near the observation decks of the Cinco Ranch Oxbow Lake as part of his Eagle Scout Project. Varun planned and organized his project and was diligent in making his vision of helping wood ducks a reality. He reached out to me months ago and asked where I have observed wood ducks in our area. He then put a plan together and worked with the proper authorities to get approval for nesting box installation.
Once approved he set out to purchase supplies and organize a group of fellow Scouts to help build the nesting boxes. He then set today as the installation day organizing a work group that included members of Troop 1103, his troop leader, a recent Eagle Scout that joined in for support together with family and friends.
Wood ducks have recently migrated back to Katy and will start their spring nesting season. The timing is ideal and hopefully wood ducks will use the box during this nesting season.
