April 16 2024

Chris Hecker, Cypress Park High School principal, was named CFISD’s new assistant superintendent of secondary school leadership on April 16. Hecker replaces Sarah Harty and Dr. Sheri McCaig, who are retiring in June.

Hecker has 27 years of experience in education, all in CFISD. He began as a world history teacher at Langham Creek High School, where he also served as the assistant swimming and diving coach. He taught seven years before moving into administration as an assistant principal at Dean Middle School. After two years at Dean, he helped open Cypress Woods High School in 2006, serving one year as an assistant principal and another year as the director of instruction. He also served as the district’s curriculum coordinator for high school social studies in 2007-2008.

In 2008, Hecker was named principal at Dean Middle School, leading more than 1,500 students and 145 staff members for seven years. He opened CFISD’s 11thcomprehensive high school, Cypress Park, in 2016, where he has served for eight years. He was named CFISD’s Secondary Principal of the Year in 2021-2022.

Hecker earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Texas, and his Master in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston. He received his superintendent certification from Sam Houston State University.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected for this position,” Hecker said. “It has been a blessing to have been part of the learning communities at Langham Creek, Dean, Cypress Woods and Cypress Park. I am thrilled to be able to serve the students, parents, campuses, and principals of our incredible school district in this new role.”
