January 16 2024

Editor's Note: This article has been updated to reflect the rescheduled date due to inclement weather predictions for February 3.

Fort Bend County Judge JP George, in partnership with the NAACP Missouri City and Vicinity Branch, is gearing up to host the inaugural Gumbo Cook-Off & Vendor Market. Scheduled for Sunday, February 18, 2024, this event promises to add warmth and flavor to your winter weekend.

Set to take place at the Fort Bend County Historic Courthouse in Richmond, the cook-off aims to draw in gumbo enthusiasts for a friendly but fierce competition. Registration has been capped at $25 per gumbo team, with space limited to the first ten registered, ensuring exclusivity and healthy competition. Not only will the top three winners receive considerable cash prizes, but they'll also hold the bragging rights in the much-coveted People's Choice and Judges' Awards categories.

Alongside the cook-off, the Vendor Market welcomes local business owners and artisans to showcase their goods, offering a dynamic shopping experience as part of the day's activities. This market, an integral part of the event, celebrates Black History Month in a unique way – through a celebration of local enterprise and creativity.

Event attendance is free, with check-in beginning at 8:00 a.m., and the official start time slated for 1:00 p.m. Registration for cooks and cook teams is February 12, 2024.
