Brookwood Community Hosts Dr. Temple Grandin for Sold Out Presentation
Today, the Brookwood Community Center for Learning and Gallery Furniture presented Dr. Temple Grandin for a sold out book signing, presentation, and meet-and-greet.
A celebrated scientist, bestselling author, and animal welfare advocate, Dr. Grandin was invited to join guests at The Brookwood Café for a celebration and signing of her new book, Visual Thinking: The Hidden Gifts of People Who Think in Pictures. Following the book signing, guests enjoyed a delicious lunch while Dr. Grandin gave a presentation about how visual thinking helps us understand how a world increasingly geared towards people who are verbal, tends to sideline those who are visual thinkers, screening them out at school and overlooking them in the workplace. Rather than continuing to waste their singular gifts, which drives a collective loss in productivity and innovation, Dr. Grandin proposes new approaches to educating, parenting, employing, and collaborating with visual thinkers.
Dr. Grandin has been named one of the 100 Most Influential people in the world by Time Magazine, is the author of multiple books on the New York Times’ Bestseller List, has been featured on television programs such as 20/20 and Prime Time, and an HBO movie, Temple Grandin, was made about her remarkable life. A Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University, Dr. Grandin was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2017 and in 2022 was named a Colorado State University Distinguished Professor.
After the presentation, Dr. Grandin interacted with guests during a meet-and-greet. During the event, copies of Dr. Grandin's book were available for purchase onsite. Attendees to Dr. Grandin’s talk were also given the opportunity to apply for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through The Stephen C. Beasley Center for Learning (CFL) at The Brookwood Community.
