April 13 2023

Bane Elementary School has been named an International Center for Leadership in Education (ICLE) 2023 Model School, and campus representatives will have the opportunity to share strategies that led to gains in student learning at the association’s conference this summer.

The ICLE names Model Schools each year based on a set of criteria, including rapid growth in student achievement, diversity and setting high expectations for all students. Bane is one of 30 schools across the country to earn this distinction.

Bane will present and be recognized at the 31st Annual Model Schools Conference, to be held June 25-28 in Orlando, Fla. The event brings together educators and industry leaders to share the work they do and challenge themselves to create strategies that can produce positive results in any school.

Despite a significant transient population, COVID-19 learning delays and several years of being a monitored campus, Bane and its campus leadership successfully took small steps toward bold strategies has resulted in double-digit gains in student learning. School representatives will share with other Model Schools how they transformed their state accountability rating from a D to a B in just one year.

The team will share adaptable strategies focused on improving student achievement. Among those include setting high expectations for all students regardless of socioeconomic status, intense targeted reading intervention for the most at-risk students and structured lesson planning infused with rigor and relevance.

I am extremely proud of the work of our teachers, instructional staff and the entire school community.”

Added Dr. Linda Lucey, program chair and ICLE associate partner: “Models Schools are passionate about kids and their educators are persistent about creating effective learning environments to benefit the students and communities they serve. Each of the 2023 Model Schools is proud to share its story of perseverance and strategies others can take away and make their own.”
