Austin Animal Services Valentine’s Adoption Event: $14 Pet Adoptions and 'Pawlentine' Matchmaking Feb. 13–15
Love is in the air this Valentine’s weekend, and at Austin Animal Services, it comes with four paws, a wagging tail, and a $14 adoption fee.
From Friday, February 13 through Sunday, February 15, 2026, Austin Animal Services is hosting a special Valentine’s Day adoption event featuring $14 adoption fees on all adoptable pets. The shelter, located at 7201 Levander Loop, Austin, TX 78702, will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (adoption lines close at 6 p.m.), welcoming families, singles, couples, and anyone ready to open their heart and home.
Branded as a chance to meet your “Pawlentine,” the event pairs reduced adoption fees with something even more meaningful: connection. Volunteer “matchmakers” will be on site throughout the weekend to help visitors find a dog or cat that fits their lifestyle, home environment, and energy level.
For many, the visit may feel lighthearted and festive. For the animals waiting inside, it could mean everything.
A Second Chance at Love for Pets Like Lady
On Saturday, February 14, visitors can stop by a Valentine’s card-making station to create handmade cards for shelter pets — a simple but heartfelt gesture for animals who are still waiting for a family of their own.
Among them is Lady (ID 5997), described as a snuggly, people-loving pup who has been waiting nearly 400 days for her Valentine. Her story reflects the reality many long-term shelter dogs face, even in a city known for its love of animals.
Lady is just one of hundreds of dogs and cats hoping this Valentine’s weekend might finally be theirs.
If you’re ready to open your heart, shelter staff say Lady — and many others — are ready to meet you.

More Than a Shelter: A Lifeline for Austin’s Animals
As the municipal animal shelter for the City of Austin and unincorporated Travis County, Austin Animal Services provides care to thousands of animals each year. The shelter accepts stray and owned animals regardless of age, health, species, or breed, serving as a critical safety net for the community.
Its mission centers on public service and humane care — providing food, water, shelter, and standard municipal veterinary services for animals in need. The department works toward placing adoptable pets in forever homes through adoption, foster care, and partnerships with rescue groups, striving to maintain a live outcome rate of at least 95% for sheltered animals.
Beyond adoptions, Austin Animal Services also enforces animal regulations, assists with lost pet reunifications, provides rabies control services, and operates a Pet Resource Center (PRC) open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for microchips and other community resources.
The goal is larger than a single weekend event — it’s about preventing animal homelessness, educating the public, and promoting compassionate, responsible pet ownership across Austin and Travis County.
How to Adopt This Valentine’s Weekend
Those interested in participating in the Austin Animal Services Valentine’s Day adoption special can walk in during normal hours between February 13 and 15. No appointment is required.
Whether you’re searching for a jogging partner, a couch companion, or a family-friendly addition, shelter volunteers will be available to help guide the process.
This Valentine’s Day in Austin, the message is simple: love doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it just needs a leash, a little patience, and a place to call home.
