West Houston Assistance Ministries Rushes to Aid Motel 6 Fire Victims
On July 18, 2023, the Motel 6 near Westheimer Road caught on fire mid-afternoon. Recognizing the immediate relief needed for the fire victims, West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM) rushed to their aid by providing food, water, clothing, and gift cards to the families who were staying in affected rooms.
“When there is a need in our community, we promptly respond with all we have,” Mark Brown WHAM CEO, stated, “This fire is just one more opportunity to show up for those who are going through difficult times. We are working diligently to alleviate the damages incurred by the fire, and we pray for the victims as they navigate such a tragic event.” So far, the organization has provided relief aid and supplies to approximately 10 families affected by the fire, and who had been living at the hotel, a sadly frequent case for many of the homeless people that the organization helps.
WHAM provides hope through the provision of social services to families and individuals in need without regard to race, religion, gender, national origin or disability. Whether it’s by supplying for their basic needs through its platinum-ranked food pantry, financial assistance to avoid eviction or disconnection, employment and training to promote self-sufficiency, or other services like disaster relief and seasonal programs, WHAM’s offerings aim to alleviate poverty, build a thriving and healthy community, and give hope to the hopeless.
