Founded in 1975 by the residents of Westlake and surrounding communities with just a van, four hundred feet of hose, and fewer than twenty members, the Westlake Fire Department has significantly expanded and evolved over the years. Today, the department proudly includes over ninety-four dedicated personnel, comprising sixty-eight volunteers and twenty-six employees. Its impressive fleet features two Class “A” engines, a 100-foot aerial ladder, three BLS ambulances, and various command and rescue vehicles, including a medic responder vehicle staffed with paramedics around the clock.
With an average response time of just 5 minutes, Westlake Fire Department has earned a prestigious Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating of “3,” placing it in the top 3% of fire departments nationwide and reflecting its unwavering commitment to community safety and excellence.
