Veteran-Owned MILSPEC Cleaning Co. Brings Military Precision and Heartfelt Service to Homes in Fulshear
After nearly a decade in the U.S. Navy, Miriah Espinoza traded in her military uniform for something just as mission-driven—launching MILSPEC Cleaning Co., a Fulshear-based residential and light commercial cleaning company rooted in the values, discipline, and service ethos she learned in uniform.
Like many veterans, Espinoza faced challenges transitioning to civilian life. “After moving to the Fulshear area, I was struggling to find employment, just as many other veterans do,” she said. “I decided that, given my MBA and military background, I would rather start my own business than search for months to find a new job.”
Built with Purpose—and Precision
Alongside her husband, Joel, Espinoza's military experience directly influences how she runs her business, from leadership to operations to the smallest cleaning details. She served just shy of 10 years in the U.S. Navy as an IT Specialist, deploying four times and supporting aviation-based anti-submarine warfare platforms like the P-3 Orion and P-8 Poseidon.
“I learned that true leadership is a selfless act,” she said. “My servant leadership style places others first. If I take care of my team, they will take care of our clients just the same, if not better, than I can.”
That mentality is embedded in MILSPEC’s name—short for “military specifications,” a term used to describe rigorous standards for military equipment. “This is what sets us apart,” Espinoza said. “Our standards for cleanliness are higher.”

More Than a Cleaning Service
MILSPEC Cleaning Co. offers a wide range of residential cleaning services, including recurring maintenance cleaning, deep cleans, post-construction cleanups, move-in/move-out cleanings, and home organization. They also offer light commercial cleaning for offices and warehouses.
What makes the company unique is the customized, consultative approach Miriah takes with each client. “During a walkthrough of their home or space, I listen for areas of concern, what clients look for, and identify any areas where additional help might be needed,” she said. “Based on the needs identified, we build a custom solution to fit the client’s needs.”
In an industry often misunderstood, Espinoza is also passionate about changing perceptions. “I think cleaning services are viewed as a ‘no skill, minimum wage job,’ which could not be further from the truth,” she said. “It is a taxing, physical labor job that requires knowledge about various chemicals and materials to ensure it’s cleaned properly.”

A Heart for Service—In and Out of Uniform
Community service is central to MILSPEC’s mission. The company supports organizations like the Houston Veterans Regional Chamber of Commerce, The American Legion, DAV, and VFW, and is working to be added to the VA and Tricare’s preferred contractor list to provide grant-funded cleaning services to veterans in need.
Espinoza also offers a 10% discount for veterans, active-duty military, police, firefighters, EMS personnel, and 911 dispatchers. “Giving back is purely for selfish reasons,” she said. “We do it because it makes us feel awesome and others get to benefit. I have benefitted from others’ generosity when I needed it most, and we aim to be able to give back in the same way.”
Fulshear Roots and Future Growth
Originally from Ohio, Espinoza found her way to Texas through both life and love. She and her husband Joel—also a Navy veteran—settled in Fulshear to be closer to family. “We are local here to Fulshear and we LOVE it here,” she said. “I love the sense of community built in our neighborhoods and the AMAZING food scene in and around Houston.”
When she’s not managing MILSPEC, Espinoza enjoys exploring local flea markets, trying new Houston-area restaurants, and spending time with her husband and their four beloved dogs.

Looking ahead, she has plans to expand the MILSPEC team, hire more veterans, and eventually offer employee health insurance. She’s also exploring heavy commercial and biohazard cleaning services in the future, as the business grows with the community it serves.
“Cleaning is not just a service—it’s key to a healthy life,” Espinoza said. “And in today’s fast-paced world, hiring a cleaning service means more time for the important things—like family.”
