For Central Texas residents planning international travel, Travis County officials want the public to know one thing clearly: passport services are not limited to Travis County residents.

Whether someone lives in Williamson County, Hays County, Bastrop County, Burnet County, or elsewhere in the region, Travis County’s passport acceptance facilities are open and available to help travelers apply for a new passport, renew documents, and obtain passport photos.

As summer travel planning continues and international trips remain in high demand, county officials are encouraging residents to prepare early and review application requirements carefully before arriving for service.

Expanded Passport Services Across Austin

Travis County currently offers passport services at three Austin locations, including:

5325 Airport Blvd., 1st Floor, Austin, TX 78751
This location offers both appointments and walk-in passport services, along with free parking and Wi-Fi.

1700 Guadalupe St., 3rd Floor, Room 3.100, Austin, TX 78701
This downtown Austin office operates by appointment only and provides free Wi-Fi with metered parking nearby.

The new Northwest Austin location will operate by appointment only and offer free parking and Wi-Fi.

County officials noted that cash will not be accepted at the FM 620 location for District Clerk-related fees. Customers there must pay using a personal check, money order, or credit/debit card.

Walk-In Passport Services Available at Airport Boulevard Office

For residents needing flexibility, Travis County continues to offer walk-in passport services at the Airport Boulevard location.

Walk-in hours are available from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., although appointments receive priority and walk-ins are served as staffing allows. Officials also cautioned that walk-in sign-ins may close before 3:30 p.m. during especially busy periods.

The county is reminding travelers that arriving without all required documents could result in being turned away before check-in.

Appointments Released Weekly

Residents hoping to avoid wait times can schedule appointments online in advance. According to Travis County, more than 250 appointment slots are typically released every Monday morning at 8 a.m. for the following week, excluding holidays.

Limited same-day appointments are also made available throughout the day at both appointment-based offices.

Officials strongly encourage applicants to gather all required materials before scheduling.

What Applicants Need Before Arriving

First-time passport applicants must complete Form DS-11 and provide proof of U.S. citizenship, identification, photocopies of documents, and a passport photo. All applicants — including parents and children — must appear in person.

Travelers are also encouraged to bring a black pen for signing forms onsite.

For children under 16, additional parental relationship documentation is required.

Important Payment Rules for Passport Applications

One of the most common issues applicants encounter involves payment requirements.

Passport applications require two separate payments:

• A payment to the U.S. Department of State, which must be made by personal check or money order only
• A separate payment to the Travis County District Clerk Acceptance Facility for execution and photo fees

Current passport fees include:

• Passport Book: $130 for adults, $100 for minors
• Passport Card: $30 for adults, $15 for minors
• Passport Book and Card Combo: $160 for adults, $115 for minors

An additional $35 execution fee applies per application, and passport photos cost $14 if taken onsite.

Routine passport processing currently takes approximately four to six weeks, while expedited service — available for an additional $60 — is estimated at two to three weeks.

As international travel demand continues to rebound, county officials say preparing passport paperwork ahead of time can help families avoid unnecessary stress and last-minute complications.

The expansion of services — particularly the upcoming Northwest Austin satellite office — is expected to improve accessibility for residents throughout the greater Austin area and surrounding counties, especially for families seeking convenient locations with free parking and appointment availability.
