February 24 2024

Tomball ISD is excited to announce Coach Joe Cary from Brazosport ISD as the new Head Football Coach/Campus Athletic Coordinator for Tomball Memorial High School. He will replace Sam Parker, who has left to pursue a new coaching opportunity.

“After a very comprehensive search of close to 100 high quality applicants from around the country, we are proud to welcome Joe Cary to the Navy Empire at Tomball Memorial High School,” said Kevin Flanigan, Tomball ISD Director of Athletics. “Joe is a proven winner as a head coach and coordinator and understands how to create a championship caliber culture. He is a tremendous father, husband and leader who is respected as one of the best throughout the State of Texas. I am excited to see all of our athletic programs excel under Coach Cary’s leadership.”

Cary brings over 24 years of successful experience in Texas high school football coaching and 10 years as a head coach/campus athletic coordinator across multiple districts. His accomplished career is highlighted by six Coach of the Year accolades.

“I am honored and extremely excited to be a Tomball Memorial Wildcat and can’t wait to meet the kids and get to work,” said Cary on joining TISD. “My wife and I look forward to being part of one of the best districts in Texas and completely immersing ourselves into Tomball Memorial High School and the community of Tomball. Tomball Memorial has experienced great success across all athletics, and we look forward to building on that success and continuing to add to the Wildcat tradition. I look forward to working with Dr. Zamora, Dr. Bailey, Coach Flanigan and the leaders of TMHS and TISD to make Tomball Memorial High School the very best it can possibly be!”

In addition to his extensive head coaching experience, Cary also spent time as an Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator at Port Neches Groves High School (2009-2014), Offensive Line Coach/Special Teams Coordinator at Aledo High School (2006-2009), Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator/Head Wrestling Coach at San Antonio Ronald Reagan High School (2004-2005), and Offensive Line Coach/Assistant Track Coach at Harker Heights High School (2000-2004). Cary also brings experience coaching within the USA Football organization since 2011.

Cary earned his Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and his Masters degree from Texas State University. He and his wife, Christy, have two daughters, Avery who attends Kanakuk Institute and Camryn, a student at Texas A&M.
