Tomball Farmers Market: A Community Tradition Continues with Summer Fun, Local Flavor and a Little Christmas Cheer

For nearly two decades, the Tomball Farmers Market has been much more than a place to buy fresh vegetables or homemade goods. Every Saturday morning in Old Town Tomball, it becomes a gathering place where neighbors connect, small businesses grow, and local farmers share the fruits of their labor directly with the community.

As summer gets underway, the market is preparing for two events that highlight the spirit that has helped make it one of the largest all-local farmers markets in Texas: the Christmas in June Market on Saturday, June 20, followed by the Dunk Tank Hero Market Fundraiser on Saturday, July 18.

For residents looking for family-friendly things to do in Tomball, shop local in Northwest Harris County, or support local farmers and makers, both events offer a chance to experience what has made the market a community staple since 2008.

A Market Built by the Community, for the Community

The story of the Tomball Farmers Market began in 2007 when two Tomball mothers, Sarah Starnes and Tiffany Evans, recognized a need for a true local farmers market closer to home. After drawing overwhelming interest from residents at a community meeting, they worked with the City of Tomball and local partners to turn that vision into reality.

What started with just six vendors in May 2008 has grown into a year-round destination that can accommodate more than 65 vendors each week and regularly hosts more than 70 local farmers and vendors from within 180 miles of Tomball. The market remains certified through the USDA, Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas Department of State Health Services and Harris County health authorities.

Its mission remains focused on strengthening connections between people, food and land through education, support for local agriculture, sustainability initiatives and small-business development.

That commitment continues to have a tangible impact. According to market organizers, the Tomball Farmers Market hosts between 19 and 27 local farmers year-round each week, has helped more than 20 local businesses eventually open their own storefronts, and accepted 17 new local vendors this year alone as it continues expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs and producers in the region.

Christmas Comes Early to Old Town Tomball

While temperatures may suggest otherwise, holiday spirit will arrive early during the Christmas in June Market on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The themed market will feature holiday decorations, festive shopping opportunities and a chance for visitors to get an early start on finding unique gifts while supporting local businesses. Organizers describe the event as an opportunity to "shop local, feel the cheer" while enjoying one of Texas' largest all-local, producer-focused farmers markets.

Visitors can expect a wide variety of locally sourced products, including seasonal produce, farm-raised meats, artisan foods, handcrafted gifts, baked goods, flowers, honey, coffee, specialty beverages and more.

The market's current vendor lineup reflects the diversity that has become one of its hallmarks, with everything from hydroponic produce and pasture-raised meats to handmade soaps, sourdough breads, local honey, specialty teas, artisan jewelry and small-batch baked goods available each week.

Police vs. Fire: A Splashy Fundraiser for a Good Cause

The summer fun continues on July 18, 2026 with the Dunk Tank Hero Market Fundraiser, where community members will have a chance to take aim at local heroes from the Tomball Police Department and local fire services.

The event promises plenty of laughs as participants attempt to send first responders into the dunk tank, but the fundraiser also serves a larger purpose. According to organizers, every dunk helps provide local children with holiday gifts through the Christmas Heroes Program.

The event combines family entertainment with community giving, creating another opportunity for residents to support local causes while enjoying a Saturday at the market.

More Than a Farmers Market

One reason the Tomball Farmers Market continues to thrive is its commitment to maintaining a truly local focus.

Unlike many markets that rely heavily on resellers, Tomball Farmers Market emphasizes locally produced goods while carefully managing vendor categories to ensure a diverse mix of offerings. Organizers also rotate local artisans and prepared food vendors regularly, helping create opportunities for new businesses while keeping the shopping experience fresh for returning visitors.

Beyond supporting local agriculture, the market serves as an economic incubator. Its goals include strengthening the local economy, educating residents about sustainable growing practices, creating fundraising opportunities for nonprofit organizations, and helping emerging food and artisan businesses establish themselves within the community.

For many shoppers, a Saturday visit has become part of their weekly routine—one that supports local families while keeping food dollars circulating within the region.
