New Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery and Family Life Center Planned for Tomball’s Snook Lane

Tomball / Magnolia
November 05 2026

A new Vietnamese monastery is planned for Tomball, bringing a $3 million religious development to Snook Lane that could provide another gathering place for Buddhist families and the broader Vietnamese community in northwest Harris County.

Pho Hien Temple is proposed for 23902 Snook Lane in Tomball, TX 77375, where construction filings outline two new buildings totaling 14,125 square feet. The project includes a monastery building and a larger family life center, creating space for religious activities and potentially educational, cultural and community programs.

For residents in Tomball and the surrounding Spring, Klein and northwest Houston areas, the project represents another addition to the region's growing variety of faith communities. While churches are familiar landmarks throughout the area, Buddhist temples and Vietnamese monasteries serve a similar purpose for their congregations, providing places where families can gather, observe religious traditions and maintain connections across generations.

Pho Hien Temple Construction Plans Include Two Buildings on Snook Lane

According to construction project filings, Pho Hien Temple is planned as a two-building development at 23902 Snook Lane in Harris County.

The smaller structure, identified as Building A, will encompass approximately 2,125 square feet and carries an estimated construction cost of $500,000. Building B will be substantially larger at 12,000 square feet and is described in the filing as a family life center, with an estimated construction cost of $2.5 million.

Together, the buildings represent an estimated $3 million investment in the property, although those figures reflect reported construction costs rather than a confirmed total project budget.

Both buildings have a listed construction start date of December 1, 2026, and an anticipated completion date of December 1, 2027. These dates reflect the project's proposed construction schedule and may change as planning and construction progress.

Houston-based architectural firm DLA Houston identifies Pho Hien Temple among its commercial projects, providing another connection to the planned Tomball development.

The construction filings do not specify the number of people the monastery will accommodate, whether the family life center will be available for public events or when religious services might begin. An official opening date has not been announced in the information provided.

What Is a Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery?

Vietnamese Buddhist monasteries serve as places of worship, reflection and religious education, but many also play an important role in preserving Vietnamese language, culture and family traditions.

Depending on the monastery's Buddhist tradition and the activities offered, visitors may encounter meditation sessions, chanting, Buddhist teachings, ceremonial observances and opportunities to make offerings. Monks, nuns or lay Buddhist leaders may guide religious activities, while volunteers and community members often help organize celebrations and educational programs.

Many Vietnamese Buddhist communities also observe significant holidays, including Vesak, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment and passing of the Buddha, and Vu Lan, a Buddhist observance associated with gratitude toward parents, ancestors and family.

Lunar New Year, commonly known as Tết in Vietnamese culture, can also be an important occasion for Buddhist families, with temple visits, prayers and community gatherings forming part of the celebration.

A family life center, such as the one proposed for Pho Hien Temple, could potentially support some of these activities by providing additional space beyond the primary worship area. However, the specific programs, services and public access policies planned for the Tomball facility have not yet been confirmed.

Vietnamese Buddhist monasteries vary in their traditions and practices, so visitors should not assume that every temple offers the same activities or follows the same schedule.

Other Buddhist Temples and Meditation Centers in the Tomball Area

Pho Hien Temple would join an existing network of Buddhist temples and meditation centers serving Tomball, Magnolia, Cypress and surrounding communities.

One local example is Chan Nguyen Meditation Center, also known as Thiền Viện Chân Nguyên, at 12039 Holderrieth Road in Tomball. The center is associated with Vietnamese Buddhist religious practice and has served as a place for meditation, prayer and traditional observances, including Lunar New Year gatherings.

Nearby Magnolia is also home to Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Từ Quang, a Vietnamese Buddhist meditation center listed at 26014 Andy Lane, while Tịnh Thất Diệu Pháp is listed at 32441 Wright Road in Magnolia. Both appear in a regional directory of Vietnamese Buddhist temples serving greater Houston.

These established facilities illustrate that Buddhist religious communities already have a presence in northwest Harris County and neighboring Montgomery County, even if their buildings and traditions may be less familiar to some residents.

The addition of Pho Hien Temple could provide another location for families seeking Buddhist worship and cultural connections closer to home.

What Happens Next for Pho Hien Temple in Tomball?

With construction currently scheduled to begin in December 2026, the next steps for Pho Hien Temple will involve moving the two-building project through the applicable planning, permitting and construction processes.

The project filings identify a December 2027 target for completion, but that date does not necessarily indicate when the monastery will open to worshippers or begin hosting community activities.

Additional details about the temple's leadership, religious programming, family life center and potential community events may become available as the development progresses.

Once completed, Pho Hien Temple could offer families in Tomball and the surrounding area another place to gather for worship, meditation, religious education and cultural celebrations. With a dedicated family life center included in the plans, the monastery also has the potential to become a gathering place for community activities and traditions that bring generations together.
