Cavender’s Western Wear Coming to The Grand at 249 in Tomball, Bringing Boots, Cowboy Style and More Shopping Options

Tomball / Magnolia
November 05 2026

Tomball shoppers will soon have another place to find cowboy boots, western clothing and everyday Texas style without traveling far from home. Cavender’s Western Wear is planning a new location at The Grand at 249, the expanding retail development near the intersection of State Highway 249 and the Grand Parkway.

The Texas-based retailer, known for its extensive selection of boots, jeans, cowboy hats and western-inspired clothing, is listed among the planned tenants at the 65-acre mixed-use development. Construction filings provide additional details about the store, including a planned 15,000-square-foot retail space and a construction schedule extending through summer 2027.

For residents of Tomball, Magnolia, Cypress and surrounding northwest Houston communities, the addition brings another major shopping option to a commercial corridor that has steadily attracted restaurants, national retailers and service businesses as the area's population continues to grow.

Cavender’s Plans 15,000-Square-Foot Store in Tomball

According to a Texas construction filing, the new Cavender’s location is planned for 25573 State Highway 249 in Tomball, within Harris County. The project involves an estimated $675,000 in tenant interior improvements to approximately 15,000 square feet of existing commercial space.

Construction is scheduled to begin January 4, 2027, with an anticipated completion date of August 30, 2027. The work will involve transforming an unfinished retail space, commonly referred to as a vanilla box, into a finished store suitable for Cavender’s operations.

The filing specifies that the project is limited to interior improvements rather than construction of a new standalone building. Although the timeline provides an indication of when the store could be ready, an official grand opening date has not been announced.

The Grand at 249's latest leasing materials also identify Cavender’s as a proposed tenant, placing the western wear retailer alongside several other major stores planned for the development.

A Texas Western Wear Brand With Deep Roots

For generations of Texans, Cavender’s has been a familiar name when it comes to western wear, whether shopping for a first pair of cowboy boots, finding a hat for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo or picking up a new pair of jeans for everyday wear.

Founded in 1965 by James R. Cavender in Pittsburg, Texas, Cavender’s began as a family business and grew into one of the country's best-known western wear retailers. The company remains family-owned, with its headquarters in Tyler, Texas.

The retailer has built its reputation around offering a broad selection of western clothing and footwear for men, women and children. Its stores carry everything from traditional cowboy boots and work boots to western shirts, denim, belts, buckles, hats and accessories.

Popular brands commonly found at Cavender’s include Ariat, Wrangler, Cinch, Justin Boots, Tony Lama and other established names in western apparel and footwear. The company also offers its own exclusive merchandise and private-label products.

While the brand has strong ties to ranching, rodeo and cowboy culture, its customer base extends well beyond those traditions. Workwear, casual denim, fashionable boots and western-inspired clothing have helped make Cavender’s a destination for shoppers with a wide range of interests and lifestyles.

The company has expanded well beyond its East Texas beginnings, operating stores across Texas and numerous other states.

In the greater Houston area, Cavender’s already has a presence in markets including Houston, Katy, Cypress, Spring and surrounding communities. The planned Tomball store would give shoppers another location in northwest Harris County, particularly convenient for those traveling along the Highway 249 and Grand Parkway corridors.

The Grand at 249 Continues to Attract Major Retailers and Restaurants

Cavender’s is joining a development that has become an increasingly familiar destination for Tomball-area shoppers and diners.

Located at the northwest and southwest corners of State Highway 249 and the Grand Parkway (SH 99), The Grand at 249 is a 65-acre mixed-use development marketed by Houston-based commercial real estate firm NewQuest. Its location connects several fast-growing communities, including Tomball, Magnolia, Cypress and Spring, making it accessible to residents throughout northwest Houston.

The development brings together large retail stores, restaurants, fitness facilities and everyday services. According to NewQuest's October 2026 leasing materials, the southwest portion includes retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Burlington, Ross Dress for Less, Dollar Tree and Petco, with Cavender’s proposed in a 15,000-square-foot space near those stores.

The property's tenant lineup also includes popular dining destinations such as Chick-fil-A, Portillo’s, Gringo’s Tex-Mex, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Black Bear Diner, Bojangles, Wendy’s, Jersey Mike’s, Starbucks and several other restaurants.

Additional businesses identified in the development's leasing plans include Chipotle, Big City Wings, Tony C’s Pizza, Bruster’s Ice Cream, Club Pilates, Active Life Dentistry and Quick Quack Car Wash. Other proposed tenants include Sephora, Bath & Body Works, Dave’s Hot Chicken, Whataburger and The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill.

Across the Grand Parkway on the northwest side of the development, EoS Fitness is listed as a major tenant, with additional commercial space available for future businesses.

Not every business shown in the leasing materials is necessarily open, and several are specifically identified as proposed. However, the mix of retailers, restaurants and services illustrates how The Grand at 249 is developing into a destination where residents can accomplish several errands or enjoy a meal during the same trip.

Why Retailers Are Investing in the Tomball and Magnolia Area

The continued growth of The Grand at 249 reflects the residential expansion taking place throughout Tomball and neighboring northwest Houston communities.

According to demographic information included in NewQuest's October 2026 marketing materials, approximately 167,688 people live within five miles of the development, with an average household income of approximately $160,952.

The same report estimates that the population within three miles grew 7.9% between 2020 and 2026. Residential development remains active, with approximately 3,122 future housing units identified within five miles of the property.

For retailers, those figures represent a growing customer base in an area where new neighborhoods, established communities and major highways come together.

For residents, the expansion means more shopping and dining choices closer to home. Instead of making separate trips into Houston or other parts of the metropolitan area, families can increasingly find national retailers, restaurants and specialty stores along the Highway 249 corridor.

Cavender’s is particularly well suited to a market where western wear remains part of everyday life for many residents, from work boots and denim to rodeo attire, country concerts and weekend outings.

When Will Cavender’s Open at The Grand at 249?

While construction documents identify August 30, 2027, as the anticipated completion date for the interior improvements, that does not necessarily mean the store will open immediately afterward. Retail openings often depend on final inspections, merchandise deliveries, employee hiring and other preparations.

As of November 2026, a confirmed opening date, store hours and hiring timeline for the Tomball Cavender’s location have not been announced.

The planned store represents another addition to Tomball's expanding retail landscape, bringing a longtime Texas brand to one of the area's growing commercial destinations. For residents who already shop at The Grand at 249, it will eventually mean another stop for boots, western clothing and accessories during a trip to the shopping center.
