Tomball ISD Robotics Celebrates Strong 2024-25 Season; Tomball Memorial Wins Gracious Professionalism Award at World Championship

April 25 2025

Tomball ISD Robotics teams have concluded an exceptional 2024-25 competitive season, proudly representing Tomball Memorial High School (TMHS), Tomball Star Academy, and Tomball High School on some of the biggest stages in high school robotics.

In early April, all three Tomball ISD high schools competed in the prestigious Texas State FIRST Championship, hosted at Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an internationally recognized organization dedicated to inspiring young people's interest and participation in science and technology. The Texas State Championship brought together top robotics teams from across the state, providing a highly competitive environment.

Tomball Memorial High School’s VECTOR Team led the district's impressive showing by being selected for the 1st Alliance. The team dominated the Mercury Field, winning every match they participated in and securing a notable 22nd-place finish in the state rankings. This outstanding performance earned VECTOR a coveted spot at the 2025 FIRST World Championship.

Meanwhile, Tomball High School's T3 Team and Tomball Star Academy's Allstars also showcased their skills at the state level, finishing 70th and 74th respectively. Their achievements highlighted the depth of talent and dedication within Tomball ISD Robotics programs.

At the 2025 FIRST World Championship, held again in Houston, TMHS VECTOR 8177 competed fiercely against some of the best teams from around the globe. After the qualification rounds, VECTOR ranked 46th out of 75 teams in their division, an impressive standing considering the level of competition.

However, it was the team's spirit and commitment to the values of FIRST that truly set them apart. TMHS VECTOR earned its first-ever team award at the World Championship, receiving the esteemed Gracious Professionalism Award on the Hopper Field. This honor celebrates teams that demonstrate FIRST Core Values, including fairness, humility, positivity, collaboration, and respect, both on and off the competition field.

"Gracious Professionalism" is a foundational principle of the FIRST Robotics Competition, promoting high-quality work, emphasizing the value of others, and respecting individuals and the community. TMHS VECTOR's achievement reflects not only their technical prowess but also their dedication to embodying the heart of competitive robotics.

Throughout the four-day World Championship event, the team engaged in intensive collaboration, data collection, mechanics, programming, and outreach, further cementing their status as role models within the robotics community.

Tomball ISD's robotics programs continue to provide students with exceptional opportunities to develop STEM skills, leadership, and a spirit of innovation, making Tomball a rising name in the competitive robotics arena.
