As summer gets underway across the Tomball area, families looking for educational activities, teens seeking creative outlets, and adults interested in lifelong learning will find no shortage of opportunities at the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library this June.

Located on the Lone Star College-Tomball campus, the library serves as both a Harris County Public Library branch and an academic library, creating a unique community resource where residents of all ages can access books, technology, educational programs, cultural events and workforce development opportunities close to home. Throughout June, the library's calendar reflects that mission with dozens of free programs designed to bring neighbors together while encouraging learning, creativity and community engagement.

Why This Matters for Local Families

For many Lakes at NorthPointe families, summer can be a challenge when it comes to finding affordable, enriching activities for children. The library's June schedule offers a variety of free programs that help keep young minds engaged while providing opportunities for families to spend meaningful time together.

Weekly storytime programs continue throughout the month, including Baby Bookworms, Tiny Tots, Toddler Time and Preschool Story Time. These early literacy programs use stories, songs, fingerplays and interactive activities to help children develop foundational reading and communication skills while building social connections with other families in the community.

The library's summer children's lineup also features several special events designed to spark curiosity and imagination.

On June 1, Marsha's Petting Zoo will bring a variety of farm animals to the library's South Lawn, giving children an opportunity to interact with animals up close. On June 8, nationally recognized family magician John O'Bryant will present his "Unearth a Story" magic show, featuring illusions and audience participation for all ages.

Animal lovers can return on June 15 for Wild Things Zoofari, where participants will learn about exotic and native animals through an educational presentation. Then on June 22, Books Alive! will perform "The Ballerina with Webbed Feet," transforming a beloved children's story into a live musical theater experience. The month concludes with a June 29 fire safety program hosted by Tomball Fire Rescue, where families can learn important safety lessons and potentially explore a fire truck up close.

Teen Programs Encourage Creativity and Connection

Teenagers will also find dedicated opportunities throughout June.

The Teen Space will host activities ranging from Pride-themed button making and Homeschool Hangout gatherings to the Inklings Teen Writing Club, where aspiring writers can share their work and receive feedback from peers. A relaxing Lo-Fi Days session on June 23 offers a calm environment for studying or unwinding, while a screening of Disney's "Strange World" on June 29 rounds out the month's offerings.

These programs provide teens with safe, welcoming environments where they can explore interests, develop new skills and build friendships during the summer break.

Lifelong Learning Opportunities for Adults

Adult residents in Lakes at NorthPointe will discover an equally diverse calendar of educational and recreational opportunities.

Throughout June, the library is collecting donations for Boots for Troops, a local nonprofit that sends care packages to deployed military personnel. Community members can contribute recommended items at the library's donation collection area.

Creative residents can participate in programs such as Popcorn Bucket Painting, Happily Ever Crafter, the Young at heART Watercolor Group, Sit and Stitch gatherings, and the Tomball Needle Arts Guild. These programs combine artistic expression with opportunities to meet others who share similar interests.

For those interested in family history research, June includes multiple genealogy-focused programs, including Lunch and Learn Genealogy, Rootsquad and Roots Research Help. History enthusiasts can also attend a special "Celebrating America 250" presentation focused on Juneteenth and the end of slavery in the United States.

Additional adult offerings include American Mah-Jongg, ESL Conversational Clubs, Mystery Monday discussions, cooking and nutrition programming through Oldways: Greek Summer Salad, and several monthly book clubs covering literary fiction, inspirational fiction and mystery genres.

Innovation Lab Opens Doors to Emerging Technologies

One of the library's most unique resources continues to be its Innovation Lab, where residents can learn to use advanced maker technologies that might otherwise be inaccessible.

June orientation sessions include training for 3D printers, laser cutters and Cricut machines. Completion of these orientations allows patrons to reserve and use equipment for future personal projects, providing valuable hands-on experience with technologies increasingly used in education, entrepreneurship, design and manufacturing.

The library will also host a Media Conversion Workshop and a Make It-Take It program where participants can design custom laser-cut luggage tags using Innovation Lab equipment.

Building Community Through Learning

Libraries today serve as much more than places to borrow books. They function as community gathering spaces, educational hubs, technology centers and cultural destinations. The June programming schedule at Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library reflects that evolving role by offering opportunities that appeal to residents from infancy through retirement.

Whether a family is attending a storytime, a teen is developing creative writing skills, an adult is researching family history, or a resident is learning how to use a 3D printer, these programs create opportunities for connection and lifelong learning right in the heart of the Tomball community.

What Residents Should Know

Many programs are free but require advance registration or tickets due to space limitations. Lakes at NorthPointe residents are encouraged to visit hcpl.net or contact the library directly for registration information and program details before attending. Several children's summer programs distribute tickets beginning 30 minutes before the event while supplies last.

As summer activities ramp up across the region, the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library continues to offer one of the area's most accessible and affordable destinations for learning, entertainment and community engagement.
