Spring ISD Free Summer Meals Program Returns June 8, Offering No-Cost Breakfast and Lunch for Children Across Six Campuses

For many families, summer break brings a welcome change of pace. It can also create challenges when school cafeterias close and daily access to nutritious meals becomes less predictable. To help bridge that gap, Spring Independent School District is once again participating in the Summer Meals Program, providing free breakfast and lunch to children and teens throughout the community.

Beginning June 8, 2026, children and teens 18 years old and younger can receive healthy meals at no cost at six Spring ISD campuses. Participants do not need to be enrolled in summer school, attend Spring ISD, or provide proof of income to take part in the program.

The initiative is designed to ensure young people continue to have access to balanced meals during the summer months, helping support their health, growth, and readiness for the upcoming school year.

Why the Summer Meals Program Matters

Food insecurity remains a significant challenge for many families across Texas. According to program information provided by the Texas Department of Agriculture, more than one in five Texas children struggle with hunger. During the school year, many students rely on school breakfast and lunch programs as a dependable source of daily nutrition.

When classes end for the summer, that support can disappear. Programs like the USDA-funded Summer Meals Program help fill the gap by ensuring children continue to have access to nutritious meals in a safe, welcoming environment.

For Spring-area families, the program provides a valuable community resource that can help stretch household budgets while ensuring children remain fueled for summer activities, camps, sports, and learning opportunities.

Free Summer Meal Locations and Times

Free meals will be available Monday through Thursday beginning June 8. Spring ISD campuses are closed on Fridays, and meal service will not be available on June 18 or July 2.

What Families Can Expect

Children visiting a Summer Meals Program site can expect a supervised, welcoming environment and meals that meet national nutrition standards established by the USDA. The meals are designed to provide the nutrients children need to stay active, healthy, and engaged throughout the summer.

The program is available to all children and teens age 18 and younger, as well as eligible individuals with disabilities.

Because schedules and meal service details may occasionally change, families are encouraged to call ahead to confirm availability before visiting a site.

How to Learn More

Families seeking additional information about the Spring ISD Summer Meals Program can call 281-891-6445 or visit the Spring ISD Child Nutrition Department webpage.

Parents can also find additional statewide information, meal site resources, and summer nutrition assistance tools at SummerFood.org.

As communities across the Spring area work to support children and families during the summer months, programs like this one help ensure that every child has access to nutritious meals, regardless of their circumstances.

What Happens Next

Meal service begins Monday, June 8, 2026 and continues throughout the summer at participating Spring ISD campuses. Families are encouraged to review locations and meal times now and take advantage of this free resource whenever needed.
