Conroe ISD’s New North Livestock Facility Nears Completion, Expanding Opportunities for FFA Students Across North Montgomery County

June 19 2026

As communities across northern Montgomery County continue to grow, Conroe ISD is investing in a piece of its heritage that remains deeply rooted in the region’s identity: agricultural education. Construction is nearing completion on the district’s new North Livestock Facility, a major addition designed to support Future Farmers of America (FFA) students while expanding access to hands-on agricultural learning opportunities for years to come.

Located at 3200 FM 1484 in Conroe, the new facility represents a significant investment in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and student development. Scheduled to open for the 2026-2027 school year, the approximately 31,400-square-foot facility will serve students from Conroe High School FFA, Caney Creek FFA, and the future Timber Mill High School FFA chapter, helping meet the needs of a growing student population while preserving an important part of Montgomery County's agricultural tradition.

A Long-Awaited Resource for North Conroe FFA Students

The project traces its roots back to the 2023 Conroe ISD bond election, when voters approved Proposition C, which included funding for the North County/District Livestock Facility. At the time, students and educators highlighted the challenges facing FFA members who wanted to raise and show livestock but lacked access to dedicated facilities.

According to reporting by The Creek Compass in 2024, Conroe High School and Caney Creek High School were the only two Conroe ISD high schools without an agricultural barn available to support their FFA programs. Students often faced logistical hurdles when caring for show animals, particularly those who did not have sufficient space at home.

The new facility aims to address those challenges by providing a centralized location where students can house, feed, and care for their livestock while participating in supervised agricultural experiences that are a cornerstone of FFA education.

Designed for Student Success

Recent construction updates released by Conroe ISD show substantial progress on the facility, with major structural components now in place.

When completed, the North Livestock Facility will include:

  • 116 small animal pens
  • 64 large animal pens
  • Dedicated storage areas
  • Classroom space
  • Office space
  • Modern livestock handling and support facilities
  • Covered work and gathering areas for students and agricultural programs

Construction records indicate the project began in November 2024 and carries an estimated cost of approximately $6.56 million. The facility was designed as a new prefabricated metal livestock barn with integrated educational spaces, reflecting the district’s commitment to both agricultural education and workforce readiness.

Supporting Leadership, Responsibility and Career Pathways

While livestock shows and competitions are often the most visible aspect of FFA, district leaders note that agricultural education extends far beyond raising animals.

Students involved in FFA programs gain experience in leadership, public speaking, animal science, agribusiness, veterinary studies, agricultural mechanics, and project management. These skills help prepare students for careers in agriculture, natural resources, engineering, veterinary medicine, and numerous other industries that continue to play a vital role in Texas' economy.

The new North Livestock Facility is expected to create additional opportunities for participation, particularly for students who previously faced barriers to entering livestock projects because they lacked suitable facilities at home.

Investing in Conroe ISD’s Agricultural Future

The facility also arrives at a time when northern Montgomery County is experiencing rapid residential growth. New neighborhoods continue to emerge across the area, transforming formerly rural landscapes into suburban communities.

For many residents, the North Livestock Facility serves as a reminder that agriculture remains an important part of the region’s identity even as growth accelerates. By creating a dedicated space for livestock projects, mentorship, and agricultural learning, Conroe ISD is helping ensure that future generations remain connected to the skills, traditions, and opportunities that have long shaped Montgomery County.

What Happens Next

With construction advancing and the opening planned for the upcoming school year, students, families, and FFA supporters will soon see the facility transition from a construction site into an active learning environment. Once operational, the North Livestock Facility will become a hub for agricultural education, livestock projects, leadership development, and collaboration among FFA members from multiple campuses.

For students pursuing careers in agriculture—or simply seeking the hands-on experiences and leadership opportunities that FFA provides—the new facility represents far more than a building. It is an investment in the next generation of agricultural leaders and a recognition that even in one of Texas' fastest-growing regions, agriculture continues to matter.
