Big Rivers Waterpark & Adventures Kicks Off Peak Summer Season with Daily Operations, New Events, and Attractions
With summer in full swing, one of the region's largest seasonal entertainment destinations is entering its busiest stretch of the year. Big Rivers Waterpark & Adventures, located at 23101 TX-242 in New Caney, is now operating daily through August 9, giving Houston-area families a full season of water attractions, amusement rides, aerial adventures, animal encounters, and special events to enjoy before schools return for the fall semester.
The park, which first opened to the public in May 2019 as part of the larger Grand Texas development, has steadily expanded into a multifaceted attraction that blends a traditional waterpark experience with dry-land activities and seasonal entertainment. For many families across Montgomery County, Northeast Houston, Kingwood, Porter, Humble, Atascocita, and surrounding communities, it has become a popular summer destination close to home.
Daily operations run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Sunday, August 9, before transitioning to weekend-only operations through Saturday, September 26. Admission includes access to waterpark attractions, Wild Isle inflatable waterpark, and most fairground attractions.
Water Attractions Designed for Every Age
At the center of Big Rivers' summer offerings is its expansive waterpark, featuring attractions ranging from gentle splash zones for younger children to high-speed slides for thrill seekers.
Among the most popular attractions is the Rio GRAND River, promoted as the largest lazy river in the Houston area. Unlike many waterparks, Big Rivers provides tubes free of charge, allowing guests to float through the attraction without additional fees.
Families with younger children often gravitate toward Polliwog Puddle and Hatchling Hill, while older children and adults can test their courage on attractions such as Frio Falls, Pecos Plunge, Sabine Scream, and COLORado Racers, a multi-lane racing slide that lets guests compete against friends and family.
The park's Boca Chica Bay wave pool offers some of the tallest waves in the region, while Gator Splash features what Big Rivers describes as the largest interactive water play structure in Texas, complete with hundreds of water features, slides, sprayers, and climbing elements.
Other featured water attractions include Storm Surge, a raft-based thrill ride, and Comal Crush, a family-friendly water coaster experience.
Beyond the Waterpark
While the water attractions may draw the biggest crowds, Big Rivers has continued expanding its collection of dry attractions and amusement rides, creating an experience that extends beyond traditional waterpark offerings.
The fairgrounds feature rides such as Rolling Thunder, a spinning roller coaster; StratosFEAR, a 140-foot drop tower; SPINdle Top; Texas Twister; Lafitte's Fury; Screaming Eagles; Swings; and Samba Balloons.
For guests looking for outdoor adventure, the park also offers aerial attractions including Falcon's Flight zip line, Eagle Challenge ropes course, Cougar's Climb climbing wall, Vulture's Dive free-fall experience, and Raccoon Run challenge course.
Families seeking a slower pace can visit Big Al's Petting Zoo, enjoy fishing at Big Al's Fishing Hole, navigate the Mystic Forest Maze, participate in archery or axe throwing activities, watch a Gator Interaction program, or explore the Adventure Playground.
The Wild Isle inflatable waterpark, located on the park's pond, adds another layer of excitement with floating obstacle courses, climbing structures, slides, and splash zones.
