Tiger Swim Club Registration Now Open: Celebrating 40 Years of Summer Swimming in Katy

March 20 2025

The Tiger Swim Club, a beloved summer swim league in the heart of Katy, is officially open for 2025 season registration. Established in 1985, the club is celebrating 40 years of fostering a love for swimming, teamwork, and community spirit. Designed for young swimmers between the ages of 4 and 18, the program welcomes all children who can swim unassisted across a pool.

“Swimming is more than just a sport—it’s a lifelong skill that builds confidence, resilience, and friendships,” said Grace Andrews, the Head Coach for Tiger Swim Club, who got her start with the team when she was just five years old. “We strive to create a welcoming environment where kids of all skill levels can grow and succeed.”

Why Join a Summer Swim Team?

Participation in a summer swim league offers physical, social, and cognitive benefits for young swimmers. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), swimming helps improve cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and coordination, making it an excellent low-impact sport for children of all ages.

Additionally, research from USA Swimming highlights that swimmers tend to develop strong time-management skills, goal-setting abilities, and higher self-discipline, which are essential for both academics and personal growth.

Beyond athleticism, summer swim leagues provide a sense of belonging and camaraderie. A study published in the Journal of Pediatric Psychology found that children involved in team sports experience higher levels of self-esteem and lower levels of anxiety.

“The Tiger Swim Club is like a second family,” said Andrews. “We emphasize teamwork and support, ensuring every child feels valued, no matter their skill level.”

A Katy Tradition That Continues to Grow

The Tiger Swim Club has a long history of developing young swimmers and feeding into Katy High School’s swim program. For many, this program marks the beginning of a lifelong passion for swimming.

“We take pride in helping kids fall in love with the water while also preparing them for higher levels of competition,” said Sarai Cevallos-Buchan, the Tiger Swim Club Secretary. “Some of our swimmers have gone on to compete at the high school and even collegiate level.”
