For Tomball residents who have ever spotted litter along a roadside, drainage area or neighborhood route and wished someone would do something about it, Tidy Up Tomball is offering a simple answer: come help.

The nonprofit’s Fall 2026 Community Clean-Up is set for Saturday, October 24, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., bringing volunteers together to tackle litter throughout Tomball. Participation is free, and the event is open to families, friends, schools, businesses and community organizations. The kickoff will be held at 401 Houston St. in Tomball. 

A Cleanup That Has Grown With Tomball

Tidy Up Tomball began in 2023 after local business owner Amanda Trickey noticed increasing litter as Tomball continued to grow. Inspired in part by her earlier involvement with The Big Event at Texas A&M University, Trickey began developing the idea of a community-powered cleanup effort. With support from local business owner Jonetta Barnett, the concept was presented to then-Mayor Lori Klein Quinn and Tomball City Council. Within six months, the organization had formed a board, secured 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and held its first cleanup.

That inaugural fall 2023 event drew 180 volunteers who collected about 300 pounds of trash. Since then, the effort has grown considerably. According to the Fall 2026 event page, Tidy Up Tomball has completed five cleanup events resulting in approximately 28,200 pounds of trash removed from the community. The organization is also a Keep Texas Beautiful affiliate. 

Today, Trickey serves as president of Tidy Up Tomball, with Barnett serving as vice president. The nonprofit is supported by a board and committee members drawn from the Tomball community and local business community. Its mission centers on reducing litter while building a culture in which residents take an active role in caring for the place they call home. 

Why a Cleaner Tomball Matters

The impact goes beyond the bags of trash collected.

For a growing community like Tomball, clean roadsides and public spaces help shape the experience residents, visitors and prospective businesses have when they come into town. Tidy Up Tomball describes its larger goal as protecting the community’s character while supporting quality of life, environmental responsibility and economic growth.

There is also something uniquely local about neighbors working side by side for a few hours. A family can volunteer together. Students can spend a Saturday morning serving their community. Coworkers can form a team. Local organizations can bring members together around a project where the results are immediately visible.

How the October 24 Tidy Up Tomball Cleanup Works

Volunteers will begin checking in at 8 a.m. at 401 Houston St. Teams will receive assigned cleanup routes before heading into the community around 9 a.m. Most teams are expected to finish between 11 a.m. and noon. 

Tidy Up Tomball provides much of what volunteers need, including trash bags, gloves, safety vests, litter grabbers, route maps, a first aid kit, a sharps container, bottled water, coffee and breakfast at check-in. Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and sturdy shoes or boots, along with sunscreen and a hat. Some routes may include ditches, tall grass, slopes or areas near roadways. 

Families with children are welcome to participate, although every team must include at least one adult age 18 or older. Parents should also plan transportation to and from their assigned cleanup route. 

How Tomball Residents Can Get Involved

Registration for the Tidy Up Tomball Fall 2026 Clean-Up is free. Organizers are asking volunteers to register by October 13, 2026, which allows them to build cleanup routes around team sizes, reduce overcrowding and make event-day check-in smoother. Volunteers can register individually, create a team or join an existing team.

Those who cannot participate on cleanup day can still support the organization. Tidy Up Tomball also offers opportunities to serve on planning committees, become a sponsor or donate to support future cleanup efforts. 

For a community experiencing continued growth, October's cleanup is a chance to make that growth feel a little more personal. Instead of waiting for someone else to pick up the next discarded cup, wrapper or bottle, Tomball residents can spend one morning helping care for the community together.
