New Dollar Tree Coming to The Grand at 249 in Tomball as Retail Development Continues to Grow

Tomball / Magnolia
October 22 2026

Tomball-area residents will soon have another place to pick up everyday essentials, seasonal decorations and affordable household goods without traveling far from home. Dollar Tree is planning a new store at The Grand at 249, the growing shopping and dining development near the intersection of Tomball Parkway and the Grand Parkway.

The store, identified as Dollar Tree #09901, is planned for 25557 Tomball Parkway, Tomball, TX 77375, according to a construction project filing. The project calls for a $195,000 renovation of an existing 10,057-square-foot retail space, with construction scheduled to begin March 1, 2027, and wrap up May 6, 2027.

Although an official opening date has not been announced, the plans offer another glimpse of what's ahead for the Highway 249 corridor, where new neighborhoods, restaurants and retailers continue to change the shopping landscape for families in Tomball, Magnolia, Spring and Northwest Houston.

What to Know About the New Dollar Tree Coming to Tomball

The planned Dollar Tree will occupy space within The Grand at 249, a large mixed-use development that has become a popular destination for shopping and dining near the Grand Parkway.

The construction filing identifies the project as a renovation or alteration rather than a new building, indicating that Dollar Tree intends to prepare an existing commercial space for its retail operations.

The anticipated May 6, 2027, construction completion date is not necessarily the store's opening date. Additional work, inspections, stocking and employee preparations may be needed before customers can begin shopping.

For nearby homeowners and families, the addition means another convenient option for purchasing school supplies, cleaning products, party decorations, greeting cards, snacks and other everyday items, particularly for shoppers looking to keep smaller purchases within a household budget.

The Grand at 249 Continues to Grow Along Tomball Parkway

Developed and marketed by Houston-based commercial real estate firm NewQuest, The Grand at 249 spans approximately 65 acres on the northwest and southwest corners of Highway 249 and the Grand Parkway (SH 99).

The development is designed to bring major retailers, restaurants, fitness facilities and everyday services together in one area, making it easier for residents to combine grocery shopping, errands, dining and other activities into a single trip.

NewQuest's September 2026 leasing materials identify Dollar Tree as a tenant in a roughly 10,000-square-foot space, alongside retailers including Burlington, Ross Dress for Less, Dick's Sporting Goods and Petco.

The development's growing restaurant lineup includes Chick-fil-A, Portillo's, Gringo's Tex-Mex, Black Bear Diner, Bojangles, Jersey Mike's and other familiar names. Additional businesses listed in the leasing materials include Club Pilates, EoS Fitness, Tony C's Pizza, Big City Wings and Bruster's Ice Cream.

More businesses are also in the works. Plans identify Sephora, Bath & Body Works, Cavender's, Dave's Hot Chicken, The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill and other potential additions, although some remain designated as proposed rather than finalized.

My Neighborhood News previously reported that Sephora is preparing for a 2027 construction project at The Grand at 249, adding another anticipated national retailer to the shopping center's future lineup.

The scale of development reflects how much this part of Tomball has grown. According to demographic estimates included in NewQuest's leasing materials, approximately 167,688 people live within five miles of The Grand at 249, with the surrounding three-mile population increasing an estimated 7.9% between 2020 and 2026.

For longtime Tomball residents, the intersection of Highway 249 and the Grand Parkway looks considerably different than it did just a few years ago. The arrival of additional retailers like Dollar Tree is another sign of how the area's shopping options are expanding alongside its residential communities.

Dollar Tree's History: From $1 Stores to a National Discount Retailer

Dollar Tree has been part of the American discount retail industry for four decades, with roots tracing back to a Ben Franklin variety store opened by K.R. Perry in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1953.

In 1986, Macon Brock, Doug Perry and Ray Compton launched five stores under the name Only $1.00. The concept was straightforward: offer a wide selection of merchandise at a single low price, giving shoppers an affordable alternative for household necessities and small purchases.

The business adopted the Dollar Tree name during the 1990s and steadily expanded across the country. Today, the Chesapeake, Virginia-based retailer operates more than 9,000 stores across the United States and Canada.

One reason Dollar Tree has remained popular is its changing selection of merchandise. Shoppers can find cleaning supplies, kitchenware, food and snacks, greeting cards, gift bags, school supplies, toys, craft materials, seasonal decorations and party essentials.

The retailer has also become a familiar stop for teachers purchasing classroom supplies, parents organizing birthday parties and families looking for inexpensive decorations for holidays throughout the year.

While Dollar Tree built its reputation on merchandise priced at $1, its pricing model has changed. In 2022, the company completed its transition to a $1.25 base price across U.S. stores, and it has since expanded its assortment to include products at several higher price points.

Those additional prices allow the retailer to carry a wider selection of merchandise, including larger packages, expanded household goods and more national-brand products. Not everything in a modern Dollar Tree costs $1.25, making it worthwhile for shoppers to check shelf prices when comparing purchases.

Where Are Other Dollar Tree Stores in Tomball and Nearby Cypress?

The Grand at 249 location would join an existing network of Dollar Tree stores serving Tomball and neighboring communities.

According to the company's official store directory, Tomball currently has two operating Dollar Tree locations: one at 22625 Tomball Parkway, Tomball, TX 77375, near Walmart, and another at 14324 FM 2920 Road, Tomball, TX 77377, in Tomball Town Center.

Cypress shoppers also have several established locations, including stores at 26076 Northwest Freeway in Cypress Mills Plaza, 16155 Spring Cypress Road, 13815 Cypress North Houston Road and 11710 Grant Road.

These stores give residents throughout the Tomball, Cypress and Northwest Houston area multiple places to shop while the new location is being prepared.

And The Grand at 249 isn't the only place where Dollar Tree is planning to expand locally.

In September 2026, My Neighborhood News reported plans for another Dollar Tree at the former Party City location in Four Corners Shopping Center, at 28591 Tomball Parkway, Tomball, TX 77375.

That project, identified as Dollar Tree Store #11749, calls for the renovation of an approximately 11,825-square-foot space, with an estimated construction investment of $596,926.

Construction at the Four Corners location is scheduled to begin November 2, 2026, and conclude January 14, 2027, according to the previously reported filing. An official opening date has not been announced.

With both the Four Corners and The Grand at 249 projects moving through planning, Tomball could eventually have four Dollar Tree locations, provided both projects proceed as anticipated.

What's Next for Dollar Tree at The Grand at 249?

For now, the next milestone will be the start of renovations at 25557 Tomball Parkway in March 2027.

If construction follows the submitted schedule, work should conclude in early May. However, construction dates are estimates and can change, and Dollar Tree has not yet announced when the store will officially welcome customers.

As more businesses open throughout The Grand at 249, residents can expect additional shopping and dining choices along a corridor that has become an increasingly busy part of everyday life in Tomball and surrounding Northwest Houston neighborhoods.

For shoppers who already make regular trips to Dollar Tree for seasonal finds, household basics or last-minute party supplies, the new store will offer another convenient stop close to home.

Stay tuned to My Neighborhood News for updates on the Dollar Tree opening at The Grand at 249, the planned Four Corners Shopping Center location and other new businesses coming to Tomball, Magnolia, Cypress and Northwest Houston.
