The George Ranch Kicks Off 200th Anniversary with a Year-Long Celebration

January 24 2024

This year, a significant milestone marks the landscape of Texas, specifically in Richmond, as The George Ranch celebrates its 200th year. Known as the oldest and largest ranch in Texas, the Ranch's bicentennial is a testament to its enduring legacy. Nestled in the heart of Fort Bend County, The George Ranch has been home to generations of Texans since its establishment in 1824. To commemorate this important milestone, The George Ranch will be celebrating throughout 2024 with special events and initiatives.

The year-long festivities were inaugurated with an exclusive champagne toast at the 1930s George Ranch House, the residence of Mamie and Albert P. George. Tim Kaminski, chairman of the year-long 200th Anniversary Celebration, lauded The George Ranch's commitment to the community and youth education.

"This anniversary marks a unique opportunity to pay tribute to not only our Texas heritage, but to the dedication of The George Ranch’s commitment to enriching youth education through interactive, authentic programming," said Kaminski, emphasizing the significance of this commemoration.

In recognition of the Ranch's dedication to the heritage of Fort Bend, Representative Suleman Lalani, M.D., House District 76, awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Kaminski.

Loaded with a variety of events and activities, the 200th Anniversary Celebration offers an array of experiences that bring the rich history of Texas to life. Highlighting events are the Black Cowboy Student Education Day on February 9th, marking the opening of a state-of-the-art Visitor Center on February 29th, and a thrilling multi-day Rodeo from May 2nd to 4th.

The George Ranch 200th Anniversary Rodeo is set to be the star attraction, featuring classic rodeo events like saddle bronc and bull riding, paired with kid-friendly games and live music, courtesy of Byrn Rodeo. There's also a VIP event taking place in April, promising top-notch entertainment, whiskey tasting, and a gourmet Texas-style meal.

A new addition in The George Ranch's 200th year is the establishment of a 501(c)3 tasked with overseeing the 475-acre educational area within the Ranch. Executive Director, Adrienne Barker, brings her three decades of non-profit leadership to the role. She expresses her excitement, saying, "We are very excited to share how The George Ranch has impacted our community, State and Country for 200 years."

The 200th Anniversary Celebration allows for generous participation, with a unique opportunity dubbed "The Two Hundred for Two Hundred." This initiative, aimed at enhancing student education, offers an exclusive montage of experiences, all while aid goes toward preserving and revitalizing The George Ranch.
