The $37M Costco Milestone: New Braunfels’ Opening Date Set for April 2026
A major retail development is preparing to open its doors in the heart of Comal County. Costco, the wholesale giant known for bulk savings and member-only perks, will open its long-awaited New Braunfels location in April 2026, setting the stage for a new era of convenience and commerce in the area.
Located within the master-planned Mayfair development, the $37 million, 158,000-square-foot warehouse will serve as the first major commercial anchor in what is expected to become a bustling residential and retail community. Mayfair, spanning 1,900 acres off I-35 near Kohlenberg Road, aims to include more than 6,000 homes, parks, schools, and a town center.
For local residents in subdivisions like Morningside Trails, the opening means shorter trips for groceries and household needs. Until now, the nearest Costco was in Selma—about 25 minutes away. The new store is expected to save time, reduce traffic strain on surrounding highways, and create hundreds of jobs locally.

City leaders say this isn’t just about convenience. The store’s opening will likely spur further investment in the area, attracting restaurants, service providers, and other retail partners to Mayfair. As one of the fastest-growing corridors between San Antonio and Austin, New Braunfels is fast becoming a major commercial magnet.
Moreover, the Costco development is expected to contribute significantly to local tax revenues, funding city services and schools while increasing the city’s retail profile. As one of the top-searched brands by shoppers in Texas, Costco’s arrival is also a sign of New Braunfels’ rising appeal among families and professionals.
