Tacos La Bala Is Bringing Its Houston-Area Mexican Menu to New Caney
A Houston-area taqueria with locations spread across the region is preparing to make its way to New Caney.
Tacos La Bala is planning a location at 20460 FM 1485, Suite A, in the Caney North development. Construction filings describe a $250,000 renovation of a 2,482-square-foot space that will be converted for restaurant use.
Work is scheduled to begin Sept. 10, 2026, with completion targeted for Jan. 30, 2027. An opening date has not been announced, and construction timelines can change.
Still, the filing offers an early look at another restaurant joining the growing stretch of businesses along FM 1485 — and one that could become a regular breakfast, lunch or dinner stop for New Caney and Porter residents.
An established Houston-area taqueria heads northeast
Tacos La Bala traces its story to 5800 Bellaire Boulevard in Houston, but it is no longer a one-location restaurant.
The Tacos La Bala name can now be found across several parts of the Houston area, including locations serving communities in north and northwest Houston, west Houston, Alief, the Katy area and Rosenberg. Related La Bala locations also appear in portions of central and southwest Houston.
The planned New Caney restaurant would carry the brand farther northeast into Montgomery County, placing it closer to residents in New Caney, Porter and surrounding communities.
Tacos La Bala’s slogan, “No somos los únicos, pero sí los mejores,” translates to, “We are not the only ones, but we are the best.” It is a confident line, but one that fits a restaurant operating in a region where diners have no shortage of choices for Mexican food.
The restaurant has built its identity around made-to-order meals, generous portions and a menu that goes well beyond tacos. For New Caney, the opening would add another locally convenient option for Mexican breakfast, quick lunches, takeout and full family meals.
Breakfast is a big part of the menu
Tacos La Bala is not the kind of place that waits until lunch to get busy.
Its breakfast menu includes tacos filled with egg and potato, chorizo, ham, bacon, nopales or machacado. Customers can choose corn or flour tortillas, along with plates such as huevos rancheros, huevos divorciados, huevos a la Mexicana and chilaquiles with red or green salsa.
There are also heartier choices, including eggs with potatoes and chorizo, machacado with egg and entomatadas with cecina.
That variety could make the New Caney location especially useful for commuters, nearby workers and families looking for breakfast tacos along FM 1485.
More than tacos
The menu stretches well beyond breakfast.
Taco fillings include trompo, fajita, deshebrada, chicharrón, barbacoa, cochinita pibil, chicken, nopales, lengua, tripe, shrimp, avocado and cecina. Many of those same fillings can also be ordered in quesadillas, gorditas, tostadas, sopes and burritos.
Trompo is one of the restaurant’s best-known offerings, made with seasoned pork cooked on a vertical rotisserie and sliced to order. Other familiar choices include slow-cooked barbacoa, cochinita pibil and chicharrón.
The torta menu is just as broad, with options such as pierna, fajita, trompo, barbacoa, lengua, Milanesa, cecina, shrimp and a Cuban-style torta.
One of the more distinctive choices is the Torta de la Barda, a loaded sandwich made with beans, chicharrón, yellow and white cheese, chorizo, ham, lettuce, tomato and avocado.
Menudo, lamb soup and full plates round out the menu
Tacos La Bala also serves the dishes many customers look for when they want something warm, filling and familiar.
The menu includes menudo, caldo de pollo, caldo de camarón, seafood soup, frijoles charros and consomé de borrego, a lamb soup that has earned praise from customers at existing locations.
Larger plates include Milanesa with rice, beans, salad and fries; cecina served with rice, beans, salad and a roasted chile; chicken flautas; chicken salad; nachos and a large quesadilla.
There is also a children’s menu with cheese quesadillas, fries and chicken nuggets, along with aguas frescas in flavors such as horchata, lime, jamaica, tamarind and mango.
A restaurant designed for everyday visits
Part of Tacos La Bala’s appeal is that it does not present itself as a special-occasion restaurant. It is built around everyday meals — breakfast before work, tacos on the way home, a bowl of menudo on the weekend or tortas for the family.
The restaurant describes its atmosphere as casual and welcoming, with dine-in and takeout service. Its menu also notes that dishes are prepared at the time they are ordered using fresh ingredients.
That neighborhood-friendly format could be a natural fit for New Caney, where continued residential and commercial growth is bringing more demand for restaurants and services close to home.
What happens next
The New Caney project is listed as a renovation rather than new construction, meaning crews are expected to build out an existing suite inside Caney North.
The filing shows an anticipated completion date of Jan. 30, 2027, but the restaurant will still need to complete inspections, staffing and other opening preparations before welcoming customers.
No official grand opening date or New Caney operating hours have been released.
For now, residents can look forward to an established Houston-area restaurant expanding into Montgomery County — and the possibility of breakfast tacos, tortas, burritos and consomé de borrego becoming a little easier to find along FM 1485.
