SeaWorld San Antonio Launches Massive Summer Entertainment Expansion With First-Ever Drone Show, New Nighttime Spectaculars and Family Attractions

SeaWorld San Antonio is preparing to transform summer nights across South Texas with a major expansion of entertainment offerings that park officials say will deliver bigger nighttime experiences, new technology-driven attractions and more family-focused activities for residents across the greater San Antonio area.

Beginning May 22, the park’s annual “Electric Ocean” celebration returns with a significantly expanded lineup that includes SeaWorld San Antonio’s first-ever synchronized drone show, all-new nighttime animal presentations, an energetic evening parade, high-adrenaline waterski stunt performances and continued excitement surrounding the recently opened Barracuda Strike roller coaster.

For San Antonio-area families searching for things to do this summer, the park’s expanded seasonal programming arrives as many residents look for local entertainment options, staycation experiences and evening activities that help families beat the South Texas heat while still enjoying major attractions close to home.

The additions also reflect broader investments in San Antonio’s tourism and entertainment economy as the city continues growing as one of Texas’ top family travel destinations.

“This summer, SeaWorld is raising the bar across the country—combining really enjoyable and fun nighttime shows and presentations, cutting-edge drone displays, exciting new experiences and nonstop family fun,” said Marc Swanson, CEO of United Parks & Resorts, SeaWorld’s parent company. “From coast to coast, we're bringing together animal experiences, immersive entertainment and high-energy celebrations that offer something for every guest and create lasting memories.”

SeaWorld San Antonio’s First-Ever Drone Show Headlines Electric Ocean

At the center of the summer expansion is the debut of the “SeaWorld Illuminight Drone Finale,” marking the first time the San Antonio park has introduced a large-scale nighttime drone spectacular.

According to SeaWorld, the production will feature 400 synchronized drones soaring above the park in choreographed formations inspired by marine life. Set to a dramatic soundtrack, the aerial presentation is designed to transform the night sky into a moving canvas of light and motion.

The addition places SeaWorld San Antonio alongside larger national entertainment venues increasingly using drone technology to create immersive nighttime experiences for guests of all ages.

For local residents, the show represents a major new entertainment feature during a summer season when outdoor nighttime activities become especially popular throughout the San Antonio region.

The drone finale will serve as the closing experience for Electric Ocean, SeaWorld San Antonio’s premier nighttime summer celebration.

Expanded Nighttime Entertainment Designed for Families and Summer Crowds

SeaWorld San Antonio’s summer lineup places heavy emphasis on evening experiences designed to extend visits beyond daytime hours, an important consideration during the region’s intense summer temperatures.

Among the new offerings is the “RhythMotion Ocean Parade,” featuring illuminated floats, dynamic dancers and whimsical characters moving throughout the park while inviting guests to dance along as the parade sets the tone for an evening of celebration.

Another major addition is “Hydropower: Xtreme FX,” a live-action waterski stunt production combining pyrotechnics, lasers, live music and high-flying water performances. SeaWorld describes the show as a high-adrenaline waterski experience unlike anything previously featured at the park.

The expanded lineup reflects a growing trend among major theme parks investing in nighttime entertainment as families increasingly seek evening attractions and cooler outdoor experiences during Texas summers.

New Nighttime Animal Shows Continue SeaWorld’s Marine Life Focus

Beginning May 22, SeaWorld San Antonio will also debut two all-new nighttime animal presentations that combine entertainment, storytelling and marine life education.

Shamu Celebration: Light Up the Night

The new orca presentation showcases the power, beauty and grace of killer whales through synchronized lighting, music and choreographed nighttime production elements designed to captivate audiences while encouraging interest in wildlife and marine conservation.

Sea Lions Tonite

SeaWorld’s longtime sea lion comedy production returns with updated performances, new surprises and expanded audience interaction aimed at delivering fast-paced family entertainment.

The nighttime additions mirror similar summer rollouts at SeaWorld Orlando and SeaWorld San Diego as the company launches coast-to-coast summer programming enhancements across all three U.S. parks.

Barracuda Strike Continues Drawing Families and Thrill Seekers

Guests visiting SeaWorld San Antonio this summer will also have the opportunity to experience “Barracuda Strike,” the recently introduced attraction now recognized as the tallest inverted family coaster in North America.

Designed to appeal to both thrill seekers and families, the coaster invites riders to experience the movements of one of the ocean’s most agile predators through twisting turns, drops and suspended coaster elements.

SeaWorld describes the ride as intense enough for adrenaline enthusiasts while remaining accessible for families seeking larger thrill attractions they can experience together.

The ride’s continued promotion signals SeaWorld San Antonio’s ongoing push to strengthen its position as both a marine-life park and a broader family entertainment destination within the competitive Texas tourism market.

Summer Tourism Continues Playing Major Role in San Antonio Economy

SeaWorld San Antonio’s expanded summer programming arrives during one of the busiest tourism periods of the year for the city.

Alongside attractions such as the San Antonio River Walk, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the city’s historic destinations, SeaWorld remains one of the region’s largest family tourism drivers, helping support hospitality, restaurant and entertainment sectors across Bexar County.

For many South Texas families, attractions like SeaWorld also provide regional staycation opportunities that reduce the need for long-distance summer travel while still offering large-scale entertainment experiences.

The park’s increased emphasis on nighttime programming may also appeal to surrounding communities traveling in from areas including New Braunfels, Boerne, Schertz, Seguin and other parts of the greater San Antonio region.

Annual Passes Marketed Toward Repeat Local Visitors

SeaWorld officials continue encouraging residents to consider annual passes as the primary way to experience the expanded summer offerings.

According to the company, annual pass members receive unlimited park visits along with additional benefits that include merchandise discounts, reserved seating opportunities and savings on Quick Queue access.

With summer programming extending across multiple months, the annual pass strategy targets local and regional families expected to make repeat visits throughout the season.

SeaWorld Continues Conservation and Animal Rescue Mission

While SeaWorld San Antonio’s summer expansion is centered on new entertainment and family experiences, park officials say the broader mission remains rooted in marine life education, animal care and conservation — goals that continue shaping many of the park’s attractions and presentations.

For many guests, especially families visiting from across the San Antonio area, the park’s animal encounters are intended to create a stronger connection to marine life and help younger visitors better understand ocean conservation and wildlife rescue efforts.

SeaWorld says it has helped rescue and care for more than 42,000 animals over the past six decades, while the nonprofit SeaWorld Conservation Fund has contributed more than $20 million toward wildlife research and conservation programs around the world.

The company also noted that its animal care programs remain accredited by organizations including the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums, while maintaining Humane Certified recognition through American Humane.

As SeaWorld San Antonio continues evolving with new rides, nighttime shows and large-scale entertainment, park leaders say educational experiences and marine life awareness remain central to the long-term vision of the park and the guest experience it hopes families take home with them after their visit.

What Happens Next for SeaWorld San Antonio Visitors

SeaWorld San Antonio’s Electric Ocean summer programming officially begins May 22 and is expected to continue throughout the summer travel season.

Residents planning visits are encouraged to review updated park hours, nighttime show schedules and special event details before arriving, particularly during holiday weekends and peak summer travel periods when attendance is expected to increase significantly.

With the debut of the park’s first-ever drone spectacular, expanded nighttime experiences and continued investment in family attractions, SeaWorld San Antonio is positioning itself as one of the region’s largest summer entertainment destinations for 2026.
